I kind of have to give "Lost" massive props for being an ensemble show with 26 characters.

Parallel timelines in place of flashbacks would be pretty great actually. They could systematically kill every character off in one. I'd like to see violent bloody Jack death.

Matt DC, Monday, 21 September 2009 21:52 (fourteen years ago) link

one thing I would like to be very, very careful of is turning "Lost" into Sliders"

so says i tranny ben franklin (HI DERE), Monday, 21 September 2009 21:53 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm guessing the parallel timelines will probably CONVERGE at some point

cutty, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 12:32 (fourteen years ago) link

hoping they stick with no parallels like they said they would personally. having one 815 crash and one 815 not crash in the same world is not quite the same thing. plus they've teased before about characters potentially meeting their past selves (Locke esp. had the opportunity to do this) and maybe they should follow up on that as daft as it may be. omg could lead to countless versions of the key characters running around.

unban dictionary (blueski), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 12:45 (fourteen years ago) link

Actually the only way they could possibly get anywhere near including that many characters is to get rid of flashbacks, flashforwards, parallel timelines everything and keep it more or less in one timeline. I'm guessing a big chunk of the series could involve Richard Alpert trying to get them to do whatever it is they're supposed to do.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 12:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Every option I can think of for how this will play out sounds shit.

Jimenez, Jio, Giovannagetti, and Doug (onimo), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 12:50 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah I'm still holding out that this is all just misdirection and the bomb blast just won't work.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 12:51 (fourteen years ago) link

realtime Lost, like 24

unban dictionary (blueski), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:00 (fourteen years ago) link

we know that juliet is dead so that suggests... i'm not sure what. coz a nuclear bomb would take out a shit-tonne of island.

history mayne, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:03 (fourteen years ago) link

do we know she's dead? we do know elizabeth mitchell is coming back to the show though so... i don't know.

Roz, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:05 (fourteen years ago) link

we do know elizabeth mitchell is coming back to the show

not as a regular. and at one point she wasn't coming back at all. so if she is it's likely to be in flashback i'd have thunk.

history mayne, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:05 (fourteen years ago) link

the bomb not having gone off would be the biggest horseshit ever

unban dictionary (blueski), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:07 (fourteen years ago) link

right but the question is... if the bomb went off and jack (? or whoever, i have forgotten) was RIGHT, then the reset happens. so juliet lives. if the bomb goes off and he's WRONG, then she dies. but then surely so does everyone else.

i guess they could do the reset and not have too much juliet because she is boring, idk.

history mayne, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:09 (fourteen years ago) link

The alternative is what Miles said, and that exploding atomic bomb plus freak electromagnetic event causes whatever Incident they were trying to prevent. So the plane crashes just as it's always supposed to, and they find themselves in the 70s dealing with the fallout from the Incident. Which probably won't happen.

But if the bomb goes off there probably isn't much Island for them to go back to even if they have to. Unless it just cancels out the electromagnetism and nothing else, in which case this is rubbish science. Actually it's rubbish science whichever way you look at it.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:06 (fourteen years ago) link

Didn't Sayid or someone say something about it being only a small part of the bomb? Or some crap? I remember thinking, "I see what you're trying to pull here".

a porterhouse steak three times a day-ay! (╓abies), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:50 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah I think they only brought the detonator, certainly not the entire bomb. Anyway, I don't see any good way out of this other than the losties causing the incident they were trying to prevent.

peter in montreal, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 15:28 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah I think they only brought the detonator, certainly not the entire bomb.

I'm pretty sure they said it was the thermonuclear core. If it blows up it's a proper nuclear explosion.

Bacon is the new Pirates (onimo), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 15:38 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, the detonator for an H-bomb is, in fact, an A-bomb.

Pancakes Batman (Pancakes Hackman), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 15:42 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah but how big of an A-bomb?

peter in montreal, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 15:50 (fourteen years ago) link

an a-bomb will fuck u up, even a small one.

history mayne, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:01 (fourteen years ago) link

I was gonna say, I don't think it particularly matters to any of the ppl on that site how small the A-bomb was!

sturdy, ultra-light, under-the-pants moneybelt (HI DERE), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:02 (fourteen years ago) link

A-Bomb detonates -> Dharma Initiative dudes plus young Ben plus Widmore and Elly badly fucked up or killed -> Desmond and Juliet never turn up on the Island in the first place -> Flight 815 never crashes -> Faraday never sent to the Island -> A-Bomb never detonated.

It would be bollocks of the highest order, in other words. The only way they've made time travel work by now is on the premise that you can't actually change anything.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:08 (fourteen years ago) link

Actually the bomb might actually have gone off when the US military originally put it there.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:09 (fourteen years ago) link

= widmore dies?

history mayne, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:10 (fourteen years ago) link

Haha they've really fucked up by giving us a cliffhanger that gives us the best part of the year to work out all the different ways Lost might jump the shark.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:11 (fourteen years ago) link

haven't they done that just about every year?

Autogoon Almanac (some dude), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:17 (fourteen years ago) link

maybe the electromagnetic activity at the site causes everybody to travel through time a second before everything blows up. Also somebody moves the island at the just the right moment so it's saved too.

peter in montreal, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:19 (fourteen years ago) link

their plan actually working makes the most sense (bomb goes off, was not the original Incident referred to by Chang but takes the place of it effectively), so 815 doesn't crash...but Jacob does find some other way to bring them all to the island anyway (this is tough because we don't want to see a second 'return to island' right?). why was he seemingly only ever interested a few of them tho - presumably he didn't visit Michael, Eko etc.

unban dictionary (blueski), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Frankly I never bought the idea that Lost would split into different timelines, since the show seems so overwhelmingly in favor of predestination. So I was surprised at the finale, and having seen the Comic-Con teasers it does look like they're going for some of kind of reality reboot. Still though, this is the final season, they really don't any more time for wiggling, I'm just trusting they've had this final chapter basically ready for a while.

Nhex, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:39 (fourteen years ago) link

honestly they can handwave the bullshittiest soft sci-fi mumbojumbo in the world if it still makes for good TV as far as I'm concerned

Autogoon Almanac (some dude), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:41 (fourteen years ago) link

i think they're keeping one timeline, just changing 'the future'

More off-island Richard scenes sound good.

I think virtually everyone will come back, even for a brief cameo, at some point during this season.

Great interview! My guess on the recurring character who didn't want to come back is Danielle. Surprised he was so candid about Cynthia Watros though. What is she even doing?

Nhex, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 23:56 (fourteen years ago) link

So it's moving to Tuesday nights at 9. Because hey! Why not move it around again?
