hey guys, i land around 8pm tonight!
what are good record stores and thrift stores in the bay area? does anyone know about record stores and thrift stores in ARCATA??
― 69, Friday, 15 August 2008 14:33 (fifteen years ago) link
Best record store is easily the Sam Goody's in Stonestown. They have a wicked killer cassingle section.
― Steve Shasta, Friday, 15 August 2008 17:41 (fifteen years ago) link
Folks seem to like Amoeba on Haight & Stanyan. The thrift stores are all totally picked over by the "vintage" places, tho.
― libcrypt, Friday, 15 August 2008 17:50 (fifteen years ago) link
Aquarius, and also Grooves.

pete are you buying vinyl? some guy myspaced me randomly and asked for recos. this is what i told him:
some good stores (besides amoeba, which is a behemoth) areGrooves. on market and octavia. not the best 12" or even disco selection, but one of my fave stores. tons of 70s rock and weird stuff. the owner is an old fixture on the 60s/70s psych scene. did light shows for all the big clubs. he dances around stoned and tells great stories.Open Mind. market at maybe church? prolly your best bet for cheap disco and 12"s.Groove Merchant. THE beatdigger store. you'll pay for it though. amazing selection of jazz/soul/psych/disco, but really expensive.Rooky Ricardos. Lower Haight near fillmore. great 7" selection. older gay white owner is really sweet and REALLY into soul.all of the above except amoeba have listening stations.

When I got there, it was still alive and slowly dying -- just moving very slightly and less and less. Like a fish out of water.
wow

you seem to be focusing on the not-so-weird aspects of this story (SF bloggers are retarded schockah)

That was fun, Rock.

It was! And almost gossip-free.
And now I think I'm off to shop, nerd-style. (Borderlands, Isotope, maybe Aquarius, maybe Amoeba.)

Wow, um, should I read through all 950 hidden messages?
I'll be in Tiburon over Xmas. Where can I escape to?
Will bookmark and dig through this thread for suggestions.

Take the ferry into the City, Kate.

Oh yes, I certainly plan on doing that!
(Also, my brother said that I could borrow his car whenever I wanted, so I will be able to get out and about, even if my driving precludes pint-based activities.)
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 14:25 (fifteen years ago) link
I'm not sure about the Blue and Gold ferries but on the Golden Gate Transit ferries between Sausalito and San Francisco, 'pint-based' activities can be found at the bar.
― Michael White, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 14:43 (fifteen years ago) link
A boat with a bar on it... this sounds like my idea of heaven! Especially as I probably won't be allowed to drink around family. :-(
But wouldn't I have to drive to get to Sausalito from Tiburon?
(I am really quite scared of driving fullstop, as I have not done it in years, especially not on that side of the road.)
But then again, the Bay Area has good public transportation for an American city, doesn't it?
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 14:46 (fifteen years ago) link
http://transit.511.org/schedules/index.aspx#m1=S&m2=bus&cid=GG
It looks like there's a limited service (Route 19) that takes you from Tiburon to Marin City and then you change to the Number 10 bus to go south.
― Michael White, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 17:59 (fifteen years ago) link
i spend most of my time here sleeping
― smitty, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 16:11 (fifteen years ago) link
Don't you have a bar in Sausalito?
― Michael White, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 17:05 (fifteen years ago) link
wow, looks like a bad accident in the bay bridge/treasure island tunnel. lots of smoke.

Funny that Messrs Raggett and adamrl will be here Friday since I will be in L.A.

HSB is awesome! Its free, its in the park, and there are always at least a handful of cool performers at any given time - Will Oldham and Ralph Stanley and Doc Watson, etc

where in the park is it?
― gabbneb, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 16:26 (fifteen years ago) link
It's the first time in GGP, right? I'm not sure the exact stage locations have been announced.
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 16:31 (fifteen years ago) link
No, it's always in GGP.
I had dinner in LA next to RPlant and AKraus a few months ago and they said they are pretty excited about it.
