Girls with Moustaches

I saw a sort of hippyish girl yesterday with a dark, prominent moustache and I thought to myself (as I always do): "Does she not see that when she looks in the mirror?"

I've asked why they just don't shave it, and I'm told you can't because there will be stubble. But which is worse, stubble or a MOUSTACHE on a girl? Can they just hot-wax it or something?

Andy, Friday, 23 April 2004 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

They could wax it, but I guess some people don't care.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

yes. most of us do.

either, she's behind in her regimine or perhaps just doesn't care.

eh.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

it's ace to make the "I moustache you a question" joke...

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

is there a catchy name for the man who loves the hirsute woman.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Kevin.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

ok. good.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

My roommate used to sell pot to a stripper that had a little moustache. She was almost proud of it, because it proved that she was "French". She bleached it, though.

andy, Friday, 23 April 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Not yet(i)

penelope_11, Friday, 23 April 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Andy, you're missing the point: if she is a hippie, she does not care about her appearance.

|OBEY|EYE|BO| (deangulberry), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

better stated: her standards of appearance are different than yours.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Even better stated: She smells and she's hairy and get used to it Andy, you live in Northern California.

|OBEY|EYE|BO| (deangulberry), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

But if people don't live up to my standards, won't everything fall apart?

Anyway, I don't think I'm alone here. Most folks agree that girls should not have moustaches unless they work in a circus.

andy, Friday, 23 April 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

How long have you lived up there, Andy?

|OBEY|EYE|BO| (deangulberry), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

dean didn't you used to be a half-way decent poster? When did you become a dumbass?

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm actually a native of Humboldt County, so I've seen lots of moustache girls named Coyote. Also, jeans underneath Indian hippy dresses. But I don't have to like it.

andy, Friday, 23 April 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think anyone should have facial hair, but it's not worth starting threads ranting about it. It is personal preference.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Samantha: I'm just here for the ride pimping. Everything else is cream.

Andy: Yeah, that's what I figured. I know that I found the hippie appearance pretty discomforting when I first moved up north, but after a while, I got surprisingly used to it ... to the point where I was shocked to see bald armpits and highlights when I moved back to LA.

|OBEY|EYE|BO| (deangulberry), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I know a girl, I think her current nickname is Hitler's Strangled Hairlip. There was a time at which I thought she was kinda cool, but I've since then realized (through a variety of events) that she's a heartless manipulative little bitch and deserves as much scorn as we can lavish upon her moustachioed disgusting face. Once I was drunk at my friends house and fell down the stairs and woke up in a strange bed next to her. Worst morning ever.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

You know my roommate?

|OBEY|EYE|BO| (deangulberry), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

JD S4mson to thread.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread could also use a little Jon Williams, I think.

|OBEY|EYE|BO| (deangulberry), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm kinda with Dean here in that Andy appears out of touch with Dyke culture, especially in the bay area. This is not uncommon at all in certain circles. Andy should go to Mills College and hang out for a few hours and maybe he will have some more threads for ILE.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

OTM, gygax!

GYGAXE! Thanks for seeing the wisdom behind my hilarious ANDREW DICE CLAYESQUE comedy stylings.

|OBEY|EYE|BO| (deangulberry), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahem.

andrew 'dean!' clay (deangulberry), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I am ashamed to admit this, but I once knew a girl with a moustache, and I found her kinda cute. And I think it may have had to do with the moustache, because she eventually had it removed somehow, and she seemed less cute. The key, I think, was that it was blonde.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I've gone out with a few Mills girls, so I've hung out on the campus quite a bit... my next thread: "Why Performance Art ISN'T"

andy, Friday, 23 April 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

girls with goatees are cooler.

hstencil, Friday, 23 April 2004 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Do we need a new category on ILE?

girls w/hairy arms? YES
Girls with Big Feet

Le Tigre

JD Samson: This mustache I’ve grown since puberty has left me stuck in “the public.” I’m used to people looking at my hermy face. But I actually feel better now that I can be a positive image for other dykes with facial hair. I spent way too much time afraid to look anyone in the eye on the street, but when I’m onstage or when someone recognizes me, I feel much more comfortable sportin’ my ’stache with bells hanging from it.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Anybody besides me ever seen Bitch and Animal in concert? Bitch be sportin a bitchin stache!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to admit that the blond mustache is kind of cute on girls who are not otherwise masculine.

andrew 'dean!' clay (deangulberry), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

men rarely make pashes...

Sym (shmuel), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

the first woman I had a crush on was very dark-haired, very very hot, & had a 'tache. Frida Kahlo had a very prominent 'tache, which she painted in her self portraits, also she had the monobrow. I have a book of her paintings w/several photos of her, which suggest she was also extremely hot. Heh, fukc all yuo h@t@z

I think lighter coloured girl moustaches can be cute.

I think part of it is cos it is kind of exclusively feminine - men can have beards or they can have completely smooth skin and they can even have stubble but it's not really possible to get the very thin, hardly there at all girl moustache unless you're a girl.

Or a pubescent boy. Oh shit.

mei (mei), Monday, 1 May 2006 07:58 (twenty years ago)

five months pass...
My friend Lyd14 uses some kind of cream, which burns it off or something. I think it's like Nair. She's Italian.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

I used to know a hippie Mexican girl with a fairly noticeable 'stache. She really made it work.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 20:30 (nineteen years ago)

there was a girl at my school with a moustache. we briefly nicknamed her "adolf". christ, we were shits.

the most interesting thing about her wasn't her moustache; it was - in a strange, twisted irony - her void-like lack of any personality whatsoever. she eventually became known as "non-entity girl".

mind, i can still remember her 13 years later, so who's laughing now, eh?

er, neither of us. all i feel is crushing guilt. bugger.

As I said on the other thread, this can be cute, though mostly on hippie type of girls.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 2 November 2006 10:46 (nineteen years ago)

According to John Julius Norwich the Italians have a word meaning "a woman with a not unpleasing moustache". I'm a reasonably certain the word was "buffona" although a Google search was unable to confirm that.

frankiemachine (frankiemachine), Thursday, 2 November 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

A girl in one of my classes was wearing a big black fake moustache on tuesday as part of (actually, I think it was the whole of) her halloween costume. She started making a point about King Lear, and I was trying to listen and take her seriously and hopefully respond in a way that would provoke discussion amongst the rest of the class, but I couldn't stop grinning and laughing. It was pretty horrible. I had to not look at her straight for the rest of the class for fear that my 'lecture' (such as it was) would be just ruined by fits of giggles.

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 2 November 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

is shaving a girl-mustache a sellout to the patriarchy?

shookout (shookout), Thursday, 2 November 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

I'm a reasonably certain the word was "buffona" although a Google search was unable to confirm that.

Isn't baffi the word for moustaches?

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 2 November 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

Miss Rangers is the funniest thing ever to be posted on ilx.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Thursday, 2 November 2006 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

i am under the impression that I have a really noticeable HUGE, DROOPY mustache -- but it might just seem that way to me. I'm not sure if anyone else notices. Although they'd have to in certain lighting. I bleach it but it still bothers me, I waxed it once but just got a MUSTACHE OF ZITS instead. Which is MUCH WORSE. UGH.

gunther heartymeal (keckles), Friday, 3 November 2006 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

HAHA
you do not have a HUGE, DROOPY MUSTASCHE

i've dreamt of rubies! (Mandee), Friday, 3 November 2006 19:22 (nineteen years ago)
