Butterfly Effect 2: Tha Magic Pantz

latebloomer: AKA Sir Teddy Ruxpin, Former Scientologist (latebloomer), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I was pissed that the DVD I rented didn't have the completely insane suicide-in-the-womb ending! Even so, CAMP CLASSIC. Awesomely bad. I laughed so hard when he woke up with no arms.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

It should've ended when he woke up with no arms!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I loved that you could always tell it was him at the different stops throughout the years because he had the SAME HAIRCUT.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

gotta see this

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

best bit is that the title "Butterfly Effect" conveys the tenuous and chaotic connections between cause and effect, whereas in the film reaching out towards exploding dynamite causes blown off limbs. it's counterintuitive that is. yay

disappointed that the film wasn't as bad as people were telling me it would be

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

you guys have REALLy whet my appetite

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Linear time, YOU'VE BEEN PUNKD!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I am now FURIOUS that I didn't see this in the theater.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope they paid Eric Stoltz a METRIC ASS TON of money to be in this!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently they didn't do the womb suicide ending in the theater! WTF? WEAK.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

other "bonuses": gratuitous fat goth sex.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

We have ile for that.

Leon Bluth (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

IIRC there's one tossed-off scene where the goth casually throws his cum-rag at Ashton as he enters their room...?

I like how the moral of the movie is: SHIT HAPPENS.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Three things:

1) Shakey, I think / hope that was a washcloth!
2) More movies should have gratuitous fat goth sex (or gratuitous fat sex in general).
3) Alan OTM w/ the movie being just competent enough to not be enjoyably bad. (The DVD I saw had the womb suicide, and also had some meaty extras where Amy Smart & Ashton "improv" for approximately 5 lines, and they STILL manage to suck.)

Pete B on FT sez: http://www.freakytrigger.co.uk/see/2004_07_01_dys_archive.html#109083768129418042

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually I think the moral of the (womb suicide ending) film was EARTH, BETTER OFF WITHOUT ASHTON KUTCHER.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Who could disagree with that?

Leon Bluth (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Demi!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Demi Moore = Greek = Demeter = corn goddess
Ashton Kucher = Iowa = corn state = young virile corn god

Sacrifice both now please. Preferably in flaming wicker man.

THE WOMB SUICIDES

Zebra, Alpha Go! (cprek), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

will the ashton kutchner/bernie mac movie be better than this one?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, and in doing so, no.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

from And You Call Yourself A Scientist http://twtd.bluemountains.net.au/Rick/butterfly.htm

"you haven’t lived until you’ve seen Ashton casually offering to perform oral sex on a pair of neo-Nazis"

"besides – it simply isn’t possible to hate a film whose ultimate moral is that, yes, all the bad stuff in the world is Ashton Kutcher’s fault; and, yes, many people would be better off if Ashton Kutcher had never come into their lives."

H (Heruy), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Amy Smart's character's name is spelled "Kayleigh."

ROFFLE

God this movie sucked. I had to leave when they set the poor dog on fire. Fuck that shit, that ain't entertainment.

sugarpants: kind of blurry, kind of double (sugarpants), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember enduring the trailer. Clearly they marketed this movie incorrectly (among other things, Staind on the trailer soundtrack was a bad idea).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

OH MY GOD I MUST SEE THIS MOVIE NOW

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

wombicide!

OMG I almost forgot the best part: the opening shot with the definition of the "butterfly effect", as credited to 'Chaos Theory'.

Chaos Theory Jr., Esq. (nickalicious), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

"Chaos Theory" is Jerry Bruckheimer's official pseudonym.

sugarpants: kind of blurry, kind of double (sugarpants), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

You could extend this movie's concept so that way all Kutcher's other movies are extensions of it. Ergo, look for the fat goth in Guess Who and A Lot Like Love.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

This is A REALLY CHOICE movie. I want to OWN it!!

I am highly disappointed that this film did not wind up as a Playstation 2 title.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 6 September 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

LEVEL 8: WOMB STRANGLE

highlight of the film was the part where he's popping a wheelie in that wheelchair and says something to the effect of "That's where the memories are stored!" in the most asinine voice possible. I mean, he got paid to do this. It's like he's angling to be the new Keanu but going about it all wrong, very wrong.

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

the director's cut is basically the funniest movie I have ever seen, I'm going to cosign completely on the statement in the title question.

1) Shakey, I think / hope that was a washcloth!
Nope, definitely jizz-rag. Fattey uses it to clean himself up after Goth Hooker/Girlfriend leaves.

Ugh on so many levels.

milo z (mlp), Saturday, 4 November 2006 22:28 (nineteen years ago)

Pretty damn good movie except for the copout ending. If it was an Harlan Ellison or Gene Wolfe story it would have ended in the asylum.

seven months pass...

This was on C4 on Saturday night.

What a strange film. Starts out like Henry, Portrait Of A Serial Killer: The Prequel with a touch of Christie Malry, then when the time travelling starts it immediately shifts gear and becomes a bizarre melange of Back To The Future, It's A Wonderful Life, Groundhog Day, Stir Crazy, Born On The Fourth Of July, Girl Interrupted and Lost In Translation.

I'm assuming that the idea was for Kutcher to try out playing different roles and personas to expand his acting portfolio but since he plays exactly the same role in all the settings where he's placed it doesn't really work. I stayed with it though; compelling in a heroically-throwing-oneself-repeatedly-against-a-brick-wall sort of way.

two years pass...

there have been 2 sequels?!?!?

just sayin, Saturday, 13 June 2009 18:08 (seventeen years ago)

Started to watch the 3rd one (ie second sequel) the other day thinking OMG how has there been a sequel to the Butterfly Effect? Then realising it was the 3rd film not the second so having to stop myself watching it until I have seen the second one. Because I probably wouldn't understand it otherwise...

Loved the Butterfly Effect (for all the reasons above) but have not seen any wombicide! Must find this!

Not the real Village People, Saturday, 13 June 2009 18:16 (seventeen years ago)

yeah the wombicide is v important viewing you want to get onto that

just sayin, Saturday, 13 June 2009 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

Just saw it on Youtube, it has improved the film 10000%

Not the real Village People, Saturday, 13 June 2009 18:28 (seventeen years ago)

Did the sequels actually involve any of the same characters or story?

Nhex, Sunday, 14 June 2009 00:35 (seventeen years ago)

In Butterfly Effect 2, did they experiment with a way to make Butterfly Effect 1 never happen?

Pleasant Plains, Sunday, 14 June 2009 01:16 (seventeen years ago)

OMG I almost forgot the best part: the opening shot with the definition of the "butterfly effect", as credited to 'Chaos Theory'.
