i was watching the female titan ep last night and thinking about how good the show is at creating a sense of geographic space. first w/ the city itself and the walls surrounding it, but also w/ the scouting formation. they had to spend some of their time setting it up (w/ the chart and narration) but it was totally worth it.

This is good then is it? I like the premise. Watched a clip where one of the titans had a well-groomed moustache, which I thought was a bit silly.

I do wish it were faster-paced. I feel like a lot of the agonizing these characters do could just be implied.

The theme tune is great. Haven't watched the actual show yet.

this is a big manga/anime trope tho, right? the long over-emotive monologues to convey character development?

There's some truth to that but OTOH most of these characters have watched giants stomp on and/or eat their loved ones, so a lot of the angst is justified

I really like that 2 of the 3 main protagonists are portrayed as having been ruthless killers from childhood because it's done in a way that heightens the insanity of the world they live in and turns the various cliche beats that ring through those types of stories into virtues.

xp especially when directly adapted from a manga source, but it seems like it's gotten worse over the last decade or so (see: Deathnote)

the way this was talked about i thought it'd be like FLCL or something, was surprised it wasn't wacky humor

also thought the 25 first season eps were the whole series, around ep 20 i was thinking "soooo we gonna wrap this up or"

i like the comics better than the cartoon honestly because you can read at the pace you wanna. the toon does indeed drag and, if you HAVE read the comix, follows the book so exactly that it's really unnecessary.
It's a lot like death note really.
What was that link about how Titan is just about teen angst?

When I realized the titans were just gonna be landscape shrubbery and the real pith of the series was gonna be in a morality play between the characters I quit watching

There is a kind of wacky humour to how the titans are depicted -- it adds to their scariness.

yeah, the titans are these pure brainless eating machines that can't be reasoned with and for that reason alone they're pretty horrible.

also I own the manga but haven't read it in part due to the art being so fucking ugly in comparison to the series (but everyone says the manga is better so I'll pick it up eventually).

i just finished S1 of this on netflix last night. it's not the kind of thing i'd usually watch, but my little sister is obsessed with it and she wanted company. it feels weirdly too slow AND too fast: there's all these lugubrious monologues about the nature of humanity, but there's also an endless whirl of characters who pop up and have a moment before fading back into the crowd, and i struggled to keep track of them. but damn was the action stuff satisfying! the 3D maneuvering gear allows such great visuals.

i like that subaru commercial cause it's implying that humanity is doomed and civilization is coming to an end and all technology will soon be pointless in the oncoming genocide but hey buy a subaru

You can either figure out 3D maneuver gear or buy a Subaru. These are your post-apocalyptic options.

kind of a phenomena, no? we started watching because cyrus said he wanted to learn japanese. so, really, the first non-dubbed japanese show he has ever watched. and i love that he has no problem with the subtitles. amazing how it has taken off here. at the FYE store in town there are AOT books and bookbags and blankets and t-shirts. we all love it. i bought maria a plush AOT blanket.
