Bellamy burst stuns the Azzurri

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 20:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Dom's charming post-match comments about the South Koreans lodge in my memory for some reason.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, as of now I consider myself Welsh.

Well, I'm about as Welsh as Ryan Giggs at any rate.

time to revive the Home International (latterly British) Championship, or at least a version thereof. Wales haven't played England since that competition ended in 1984, and they won the last game. far more interesting than the tedious farces that England friendlies have become (did anyone even notice the Portugal match in September was happening?)

and ... well done Wales, obviously.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 22:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Well done Wales! If this serves to get that CUNT Trapattoni removed from the post (and, ideally, strung up from a Milanese lamp-post), then I am delighted. I always like the underdog.

By all accounts, I'm glad I was watching the comedy football that was England vs Macedonia instead of wehat I've been told was a worse game than versus Mexico in the World Cup. I hate what they do for me. Fuckers.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 22:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark, I watched about the last twenty minutes of the first half, including Italy's goal, and it was great, the most exciting football I've seen for donkey's, certainly a lot better than Spain vs Paraguay.

Yes, bring back the home internationals.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 17 October 2002 07:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Do I detect some unsavoury comments here about Italians?

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 17 October 2002 07:30 (twenty-three years ago)

"Bellamy burst stuns the Azzurri"

Does anyone else have an image of an exploding David Bellamy splattering del Piero with gore and beard? Well done Wales. My favourite part of last night was the goalflashes from that match appearing on my screen. And there was I, celebrating the fact that I could finally watch an England match from the comfort of my Scottish living room...

Dom's charming post-match comments about the South Koreans lodge in my memory for some reason

Points proven true by the suspension of Byron Moreno, btw...

Anyway, Wales were great out there, I haven't seen them since Sparky took over, but they played with passion, conviction, and the fans were great. We even got Bryn Tefrel doing a little song at the start as well, a sure treat for all watching.

Trappatoni cannot stay in the job now. He took a team that, just two years ago, were 13 seconds away from being champions of Europe, and turned them into... well, Del Piero and ten donkeys. If someone can explain to me the appeal of everyone's second favourite Fascist footballer, Buffon, then please do. Does he ever save the ball, or does he just parry it into the oncoming path of an opposing attacker? As for the defence... thanks for turning up guys.

On a side note... how the hell did Robbie "Britain's Most Loved Footballer" stay on the pitch for 90 minutes?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 17 October 2002 09:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Much more U&K: who was Victor Spinetti supporting?

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 17 October 2002 10:31 (twenty-three years ago)

which reminds me: who was the very famous Italian footballer (early 70s era, I think) who started his career playing for Swansea because his family lived in south Wales or something? it's on the tip of my tongue ...

robin carmody (robin carmody), Friday, 18 October 2002 00:58 (twenty-three years ago)

ON a side note, in a friendly Canada was disgraced by Scotland. I mean if Faroe Islands can beat them why can't we? There only 7 rankings above us and half the team seems to play in Scotland anyways.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 29 March 2003 16:12 (twenty-three years ago)

i think they will win the group - another 6 points might be all they need. wouldn't want England to meet them in the play-offs...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 6 September 2003 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

That second half was one of the most complete Italy performances I've seen from Italy in years, easily our best run-out under Trappatoni. He's found some magic from somewhere, we're still undefeated in 03, and this was the same organisation that saw us get a win away to Germany. Plus, it's always hard playing with 10 men, especially when Vieri forgot to turn up.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 6 September 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Bump.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 6 September 2003 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

We beat your under 21s 8-1 as well.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 6 September 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Shirley Bassey is Welsh?

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Saturday, 6 September 2003 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

By birth, yes -- her father was Nigerian and her mother English, but she was born in Tiger Bay near Cardiff and that's where she was raised.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 6 September 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Wales to get Spain in the play-offs, probably...
