Im drinking my second XL Tim's of the day so you know where Im standing. Also you may marvel at the new Tim Horton's BAGET SANDWICHES!!! And at their plans to open 300 stores in New England and Upstate New York over the next few years.

i couldn't think of a more uncomfortable place to sit for hours than tim horton's though ...
i like starbucks because attractive people go there. you can sit for hours in a starbucks and look at pretty girls {or boys} ... often starbucks goes so far as to actually _employ_ these attractive people, for further eye-grazing. yum. intellectual meat market.

Anyhow, some days call for Tim's (e.g. out with mom, driving to go pick your own apples or something) and some days call for Second Cup (post movie or shopping trip).

Horrific Jayne Mansfield stylee car crash. I know this from watching the Tim Horton biography on CBC -- I saw it only partly because of my love for english toffee cappucino, and partly for general hockey obsessiveness.
And I couldn't agree more with Mark C about Starbucks coffee, it tastes like battery acid.

That would be me, I also make the same accusation of Vaughan and its Coffee Time craze. But Im coming from a town of 5000 that supports two Tim Hortons and have Moncton which has about 25 of them all busy.
I heart Saint Huberts. Driving or training through Quebec all the time I've learnt to love the chicken. (Dan to thread?)

There was a KFC close by that closed down two years ago, remained empty, and has just reopened as a Tim Horton's. That makes seven within a kilometre-and-a-half of where I live (five sit-downs, one drive-thru, one inside a gas station). I'd say that's insane, but I make regular/occasional use of all the other six.

However you want to look at it, the Canadian national treasure angle is nothing but marketing. I don't know anyone who is a Tim Horton's customer. No-one seems to think about it or notice it. For shitty but cheap coffee 7-11 is where it's at. Or MacDonalds. Can't see them competing with eg. Greggs in Glasgow since the food is pretty horrible in comparison.

I have at least two Tim Hortons coffees a day--one on the way to work, one on the way home. Someone will often bring one in during the day. Don't know when or why they decided to forgo the possessive in their name. The original store was just Tim Horton.

― clemenza, Monday, 22 May 2017 18:18 (nine years ago)
They dropped the possessive apostrophe as a result of Quebec language laws. I don't know whether we're still supposed to read it as possessive.
― jmm, Monday, 22 May 2017 18:27 (nine years ago)
Interesting! I just assumed it was because nobody cared about such stuff--there's actual history behind it.

Tims, partly because I'm using their WiFi right now
― Wet Pelican would provide the soundtrack (Myonga VΓΆn Bontee), Monday, 22 May 2017 18:55 (nine years ago)
(The answer to the question is easily Tims btw, mainly bc Starbucks is undrinkable horseshit and Tims makes a perfectly acceptable ultra-light roast, probably better than most other fast food places. For food, I don't think Tims is as good as they used to be but, again, you should still be able to get a decent ham sandwich and soup while everything at Starbucks seems like a bizarro perversion.)
― Tomorrow Begat Tomorrow (Sund4r), Monday, 22 May 2017 19:03 (nine years ago)

Tim Hortons > the band Poison > 7-11 > literal poison > Starbucks (probably > the Buffalo latte)
― No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 18 October 2017 02:46 (eight years ago)
Tbf, though, I had coffee from an American Tims on the way back after Thanksgiving/Columbus Day and it tasted completely wrong, more like 7-11 material, so that might affect rankings (especially if they're selling Buffalo lattes).

When I was 10 or 11, 7-Up had these promotional cans in Canada where the bottom was a picture of Lighthouse or Edward Bear or Crowbar (maybe the Guess Who, too), with their name above the photo. I can't find any online evidence, but my memory is not faulty here--I was talking about them with a friend one day.
The last couple of days (and into the foreseeable future), my paper coffee cup has an illustration of Shawn Mendes on there.

I'm always mindful of crossing symbolic barriers in terms of getting-old, and I think I crossed one today: an email to Tim Hortons concerning tea biscuits.
― clemenza, Sunday, 18 January 2026 20:08 (four months ago)
Maddening: how much Tim Hortons elevates mobile orders over human beings standing in line...They'll have one very over-worked student filling mobile order after mobile order while five of us stand waiting; the student won't even make eye contact with anyone in line because that's what they've been told to do, attend to mobile no matter how many walk-in people are waiting. I'm quite sure there's some sound cost-time-profit analysis behind this strategy, which doesn't make it any less maddening if you're one of those walk-ins.

huh, I have a Tim Horton's about 2 minutes walk from my house which is perpetually understaffed so I once made a mobile order thinking it might be faster but it took me about 5 minutes to get somebody's attention when I got there and they had not even started on my order. It would have been quicker to just wait in line. Though I guess the highest priority at my Tim Horton's is very clearly the drive-through.
