London Film Festival: anyone going?

I got all 9 of the tickets I applied for. These are the ones I'm going to:

Aiki Thursday 7th 8.45
The Best Of Times Sunday 10th 9.00
Three Monday 11th 6.15
Future Shock Tuesday 12th 9.00
Dead or Alive - Final Wednesday 13th 9.00
Public Toilet Thursday 14th 9.00
Punch-Drunk Love Sunday 17th 8.30
A Chinese Odyssey Monday 18th 4.00
Lilya-4-Ever Tuesday 19th 9.00

Anyone else going to any of these? It might be good to meet up before or after for a drink/chat. I didn't think I'd get all nine - I thought that Punch-Drunk Love (the new Paul Thomas Anderson) and maybe Lilya-4-Ever (the new Lukas Moodyson) might be oversubscribed. Anyway, let me know if you're going to be at any of the same showings if you might fancy meeting.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 20 October 2002 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

If I was in London I would want to go.

simon (simon), Monday, 21 October 2002 07:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, but I'm only down for Steven Sodenburg's 'Full Frontal' at the moment.... but if you're going to be there I can get you into the party afterwards.

nick.K (nick.K), Monday, 21 October 2002 08:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Go Martin!

Mary (Mary), Monday, 21 October 2002 11:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Hopefully I'll be at Full Frontal too (mainly for the Chris Morris shpoort beforehand), but I think I'm going to afternoon / education showings of Punchdrunk Love and Lilya 4-ever.

Got to fit it round my life...

Pete (Pete), Monday, 21 October 2002 11:36 (twenty-three years ago)

haha not a problem I have, Pete!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 21 October 2002 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 15 September 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

'cache' and the rerelease of 'the passenger' -- no real point, though, as they'll all come out within 2-3 months anyway.

i went to edinburgh this year and it was lame.

N_RQ, Thursday, 15 September 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

maybe it's YOU that's changed.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 15 September 2005 13:05 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i have. and edinburgh was lame.

N_RQ, Thursday, 15 September 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

you sound like david thomson

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Thursday, 15 September 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

robble

N_RQ, Thursday, 15 September 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

there are lots of tasty-looking films but this time round i dunno if ican be arsed to pay over the odds for festival-price tix for them.

N_RQ, Thursday, 15 September 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i'm psyched abt the Haneke but it'll prob get released abt a week after it's LFF showing

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Thursday, 15 September 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

eggs-zackley.

N_RQ, Thursday, 15 September 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

what did you see at EFF hkm?

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 15 September 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

hanekeismonster

(one fr zem, mwah!)

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 15 September 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

i can't even remember. 'the beat my heart skipped', 'the murmuring coast', 'thumbsucker', a film with an insanely pretty italian actress called 'the spectator', a dour austrian film, a bad hungarian holocaust film, a luaghable french 'heat' knowck-off, 'bewitched'.

it was mainly lame cos all the films were on at the shitty buzzless multiplex.

N_RQ, Thursday, 15 September 2005 13:51 (twenty years ago)

cineworld

the new sokurov looks

familiar?

but also alluring

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

cineworld: fuck's the point? i have never seen a sukurov film.

N_RQ, Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

You're not missing much.

My line on the London Film Festival has oddly not changed much since 2000. SO maybe I should go see something this time. I have not seen any films from Austria this year. There's bound to be one on.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

has ne1 ever done the surprise film? maybe i'll do that. maybe it'll be king kong.

N_RQ, Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

There was no surprise filum last year. But I did it a few years back when it was Being John Mankytits and that was great.

Mystery Film is a great idea, especially if it is a bit unknown (though it never is).

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

I'll stick up for sokurov

not that he needs me to

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

is sokurov's newie the one about admiral hirohito? it looks interesting. sigh and sound wrote something ammazingly stpuid about it, iirc.

N_RQ, Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

where do you write again hkm?

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

'film comment'

haha, fact. 250wds. next ish. all going to plan

also 'plan b'.

N_RQ, Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

would you stick up for russian ark, cozen? cos that seemed like a v. irritating and misguided movie (esp. the 'eccentric' guide who acted as if he were auditioning for Jethro Tull)

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

(it might not have been sight and sound, and the piece may not have been about the sokurov film, but you get the idea.)

N_RQ, Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

did you not write on the internet for a somewhere, in lower-case?

sorry I'm being nosey

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

the obvious answer is

www.ilxor.com

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

ok, so, i was being a grouch, i am planning on seeing the new film by dominik 'harry he's here to help' moll, the new film by laurent 'time out [not the shitty magazine]' cantet, and the new film by luke 'legally blone' wilson, and something called 'i saw someone shoot ben barka' or something. i wd do haneke, but it'll probably cost more.

N_RQ, Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

I've done several LFF surprise films. hit and miss:

Pleasantville
Sideways
Hearts In Atlantis (FUCK YOU!)
The Insider

Cristal Waters (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

March Of The Penguins is very blah, by the way. Just like all films with a Morgan Freeman voiceover are.

Wait...I've seen a lot of these films! You all should come to the US, it's like a year-round London Film Festival!

Cristal Waters (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

i hate england.

N_RQ, Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

Don't see Hustle And Flow. Maybe see Rize. Keane looks like it could go either way.

Walk The Line and Good Night And Good Luck seem like the American festival favourites this year.

Cristal Waters (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

Maybe see "Election" or something Czech or Finnish.

Cristal Waters (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

that film with reese witherspoon? we're not that behind you, sheesh.

N_RQ, Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

JOHNNIE TO!

Cristal Waters (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Walk The Line HAS to be better than Grand Theft Parsons, at the very least.

It sort of seems fitting that George Clooney is going to be the new Coen Bros.

Cristal Waters (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
ok,

'lemming' by domink 'harry's he's here to help' moll avec charlotte gainsbourg (omg beautiful) is great, luke wilson's directorial debut 'the wendell baker story' sucks ass, really (kind of 'garden state' meets 'bottle rocket', but not in a good way), and this other one i saw was great but would take too much backstory to synopsize ect.
