do you think you can tell what a person is like just by looking at them?

well... do you?
think carefully on this one, its one thing to play 'pick n sort' down at the local people-watching arena, but totally another thing to make judgements on appearances apart from a few obvious pointers ie: sneering-leering-with-squinted-eyes-menacingly-aimed-at-you, generally means 'not-so-pleasant-to-approach'.
i do seem to keep returning to this topic in one form or other, but im not complaining this time :-)
just wondering.

sneering-leering-with-squinted-eyes-menacingly-aimed-at-you generally means 'not-so-pleasant-to-approach'.

what if it means, "dear god please make contact with me as i am pathetically lonely", as it usually does with me?

I misread this question as "Do you think you can tell what a person looks like just by looking at them?"

I don't know if it's so much what they look like or rather their "vibe" - but I do judge people on my first impression of them.

Same here. and it generally takes quite a lot for my impression to change.

I've got a book at home that has some old prints in it that show characteristic facial features that indicate stuff about a person's personality. It's pretty funny (and predictable).

Some of it goes quite deep into face-reading which is like palm reading.

In Chinese/Oriental medicine, facial diagnosis is a very important skill. Different zones on the face represent different organs and some of the meridians travel through the face as well. Some schools of Reflexology look at the face too. Both Reflexology and Oriental medicine consider the ears to indicate a lot.

So, there may be some substance to judging people by their faces - or there may not.

nah, everyone knows phrenology is the only true way to tell. once you've made the acquaintance of someone new you must feel their head for bumps that indicate criminality, feeble-mindedness or pauperism

Sometimes, but not all the time. Some people have very mean faces, and I can tell straight away that they are unpleasant. It's never a 100% bullet-proof way of judging character, though.

You can often get clues, but it's very far from reliable. We all do it, obviously.

I bet blind people don't. I wonder how much this disadvantages them?

They get special bonus creep-sensing powers

Without my glasses, not entirely.

You can tell everything about a person with one look at their shoes.

Yep. people look at me and think ..... 'wo, scary'... and they're right.
