I would have been in the shower at the time. Didn't notice a thing.

Graham (graham), Monday, 21 October 2002 10:03 (twenty-three years ago)

FUCK FUCK FUCK!

We've just had two aftershocks about a minute apart, God that was weird. The floor shook and all of the monitors in this room rocked back and forth and creaked on their stands. Plus I'm in toppling distance of I just looked out the window and all the birds are circling.

They're evacuating th building now.

Graham (graham), Monday, 21 October 2002 10:46 (twenty-three years ago)

get back in the shower!

no, seriously, it's bad, hey?

RJG (RJG), Monday, 21 October 2002 10:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't notice a thing, but Elisabeth was upstairs and suddenly screamed "What the hell was that?" at around ten to nine.

Not bad, just like someone shoving into the desk really hard. And the chairs and the shelves and the walls. We were sent outside for about 20 minutes. There were 3 fire engines outside but they went pretty quickly. A lot of people were waiting next to the new building next door, which is fairly well known not to have been built structurally sound, and I just thought "What the fuck are you doing?" (They're still using it, but really they've got to knock it down and start again).

I'm a bit worried about my video projector, which is like 2'6 square, weighs 5 stone, and is balanced precariously on top of some bookshelves. I hope it's OK.

Graham (graham), Monday, 21 October 2002 11:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Also my legs still ache like I've just stepped off a boat.

Graham (graham), Monday, 21 October 2002 11:28 (twenty-three years ago)

There was another one just before 1 pm, and once again I didn't notice a thing. Other people in our office did. Clearly, I am seismically challenged.

my brother says he didn't really notice the first one as he was just waking up, but the two that hit just before lunch, while not bad enough to even make things fall off shelves, were "really weird".

angela (angela), Monday, 21 October 2002 11:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm in Salford, not far from Manchester city center, so depending on where the epicentre was, they might have been stronger here.

Graham (graham), Monday, 21 October 2002 11:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I heard someone on the radio say that the epicentre was in Beswick, and the first tremor was about 3.2 on the Richter

C J (C J), Monday, 21 October 2002 11:59 (twenty-three years ago)

it was a real close-encounters moment.
my bed shook, the door rattled like mad
in the frame.

QUAKE-FLASH !

there's been 2 more tremors !

buildings are being/have been evacuated...

piscesboy, Monday, 21 October 2002 12:25 (twenty-three years ago)

this must be a very centralized earthquake. i'm 30 miles from manchester and haven't felt a thing, it's annoying.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 21 October 2002 12:53 (twenty-three years ago)

It's just Graham jumping up and down.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 October 2002 12:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Can we get some earthquakes in the south, please? Or a volcano, rising right through the middle of Milton Keynes?

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 21 October 2002 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

We had another tremble about 15 minutes ago.

(my prjector was fine last night. Damn it, no insurance money)

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 11:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Doesn't the title of this thread sound like the name of a really bad dance track?

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

As expected, I've already seen that "amusing" Quake Appeal email recycled with "Manchester" substituted for "Dudley".

Tag, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 11:50 (twenty-three years ago)
