Gosh. Was the Hear'Say backlash really that bad?

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 09:15 (twenty-three years ago)

It was very odd, wasn't it?

At least she got a free ironing board out of Argos though.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 09:21 (twenty-three years ago)

i think it may well have been. at some point the public began to view them as 'ungrateful'. they relied on *us*, *we* put them there etc etc

(i didnt see the programme)

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 09:22 (twenty-three years ago)

she looked horribly shiny like two apples in a sheer stocking. and what about that rachel stirling? how pissed was she? skinner was as piss-poor as ever.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 09:32 (twenty-three years ago)

poor myleene, she was always the best one in hear*say.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 09:35 (twenty-three years ago)

the two apples i refer to being her cheeks, not what you were thinking.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 09:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I only saw the last five minutes of the interview - what happened before?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 11:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Did you hear the bit about Argos, or the builders?

Earlier, Frank said something like "Hear'say had a tough time from teh public. You were assaulted in the street once?", and she burst into tears for some time (I think they might have cut bits though).

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 11:28 (twenty-three years ago)

No I missed all that. She was just talking in a sweet way about her family and reality TV what it felt like to be on her own.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 11:31 (twenty-three years ago)

The producers/researchers of the show must have *known* that the assault was quite recent, so I can't believe their bringing it up, to be honest. I don't really blame her for crying.

Also, does anyone find it strange that there was a Hearsay backlash when most of the general public are still tuning in to (and hence giving some amount of credence to) things like Popstars The Rivals, Fame Academy etc. etc.? Personally, I didn't like the music, but I wouldn't molest her in the street. Not unless she asked me to, anyway.

lol p xx, Wednesday, 23 October 2002 12:09 (twenty-three years ago)

wasnt to do with music. people thought them ungrateful

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 12:25 (twenty-three years ago)

"lovin' is easy" should have been a number 1.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 12:29 (twenty-three years ago)

and my earlier post makes me look like i suffer from tourettes syndrome. i'm disowning it.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 12:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth, sorry, that lost me. I'm a Pete of very limited intellect. Ungrateful how? Yes, ok, maybe the public did think "we" (not including myself) put them where they were, but they didn't exactly turn round and say "we don't need the public anymore, piss off", did they? Or maybe not. Can you clarify what it was that they did?

lol p xx, Wednesday, 23 October 2002 12:45 (twenty-three years ago)

i dont know, seemed to be the perception that they were acting 'big time' and somehow that was undeserved. a lot of their popularity on the show seemed to stem a) from liking 'them' as people, willing them on etc, and b) wanting the underdog to succeed, again, willing them on, the publics role, also c) getting one over on nasty simon, nasty pete etc, proving them wrong, beating them.

initial change from tv to chart, these factors remained, but their ability to fill this criteria dropped gradually. a) perception they had become too big headed "hey, we put you there, stop being so arrogant", b) not underdog anymore, c) this already done,

too heavily identified with tv show, never sufficiently divorced (inlike liberty x), seen too much as 5 originals, not a unit, lack of cohesiveness

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 12:52 (twenty-three years ago)

and kym was everyone's favourite and the charade of the 'auditions'...

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 12:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Get your point now, thankyou. I should have known that "England doesn't like a winner" would come into it. I hate this country at times. Actually, that's unfair. What I hate is the mentality of most of the populace. I think Myleene would agree with me on that one.

lol p xx, Wednesday, 23 October 2002 12:56 (twenty-three years ago)

:(

they gave her the starring role in dark angel = some consolation i spose

mark s (mark s), Monday, 28 October 2002 18:29 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
i gotta say a lot of ur comments on here are really nice and i'm sure myleene would appreciate them

I was quite upset myself when she cried on the frank skinner show and i think it was very wrong for it to be brought up on TV like it was. I feel it was a complete let down for her as he first tv appearance after the band split, but then again because of that she gained a lot of support.

Myleene was definately the best one in hear'say and having met Suzanne (who wasn't very nice) i would say she was the nicest too! I've never met kym but she's a bit ballsy for my liking!

Laura C, Wednesday, 9 June 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow - a random googler with nice things to say! Thanks Laura C - glad you enjoyed the thread. I'd steer clear of the rest, though ;)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeh, the backlahs was sh!t for hear'say. people were harsh on them, and it came from nowhere. the crap they got wasnt deserved, and Lovin Is Easy was a great pop track

Shame we couldnt get to hear If Ya Wanna Roll, but im sure it was great

and laura...ya no suzy was amazing!

Tom Loves Suzy, Wednesday, 9 June 2004 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo. Laura. Read my stuff. It's the best thing about this place.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Best thing about Myleene was them boobies by the way. Crying to Frank Skinner? Who cares. That sonofabitch ate dog meat in Korea the twat (the only time I've complained to the ITC in my life).

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

what are you up to, this weekend, c-man?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Eating dog meat is worse than eating say, pork, err... how?

I long, i long, for korean fried dog.

matthew james (matthew james), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

o no I'm sure Calum writes to the ITC every time he sees a local news item about a talking dog that says 'shaushages'

de, Wednesday, 9 June 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I complain every time I don't see such an item...

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 10 June 2004 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

You and Calums complaints cancel each other out and thus normalcy is restored.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Thursday, 10 June 2004 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate normalcy.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 10 June 2004 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Write to the ITC then.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Thursday, 10 June 2004 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure Calum writes to the ITC every time he sees a local news item about a talking dog that says 'shaushages'

A dog that is 'shaushages', surely?
