god I love sandwiches so much

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

The most recent brilliant sandwich I had was at the Italian deli down from Terrastock (only open on Friday, though, argh!). Mozzarella and tomato on some great bread -- bliss.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I like ones that you need to eat over the sink. On bagels.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 16:07 (twenty-three years ago)

the best sandwiches in the boston area are those sold at darwins.

(nb i may be wrong about this)

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

on spadina avenue in toronto you can get giant vietnamese sandwiches for one dollar! they are usually called 'saigon subs' but one place calls them 'secret sandwiches'

(nb if you eat more than 3 per year you won't like them anymore. and they use some kind of tinned butter - kind of like ghee - that some find gross)

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 16:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm currently eating an egg salad sandwich.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 16:24 (twenty-three years ago)

fritz, please stop these threads. I am starving and you aren't helping. Can't leave for anohte half hour or so.

g (graysonlane), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

here is a good one: Turkey, brie, roasted peppers, honey mustard, on a baguette. I used to call it the #8 because it was #8 on the menu at a deli near parsons where I first had it. The deli is gone i think but it is an easy sandwich to make.

g (graysonlane), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I like the idea of a sandwich being secret.

Sean (Sean), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 20:45 (twenty-three years ago)

thanks to this thread, I've had:

"you made me... sandwiches, sandwiches"

running around in my head all day. anyone care to complete the lyrics?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 21:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Admitting your Naked Eyes love = brave. ;-)

"You made me, sandwiches, sandwiches...
But some with cheddar cheeeeeeeeeeeese
You made me, sandwiches, sandwiches
Why should I eat theeeeeeeeeeeeese!!!"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I love cheese sandwiches with cheese and onion crisps, plenty of butter, and a little English mustard. On white bread. I think I might have one now actually...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 22:06 (twenty-three years ago)

what's "english mustard"? i love mustard.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 23:54 (twenty-three years ago)

no toby, you are correct. unless whoppers count as sandwiches, of course.

dave k, Thursday, 24 October 2002 00:01 (twenty-three years ago)

It's just a kind of mustard that says English Mustard on the label. It's stronger than, say, American Mustard. It's very very nice if you make sure not to put on TOO much.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 24 October 2002 09:24 (twenty-three years ago)

is this like pie pie? a sandwich filled with little sandwiches would be a sandwiches sandwich. you make lots of those and put them in a bigger sandwich and you'd have a sandwiches sandwiches sandwich. if you had more than 1, you'd be talking about a number of sandwiches sandwiches sandwiches.

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 24 October 2002 09:29 (twenty-three years ago)

My dad spoke of bread sandwiches at the Naval Academy, wherein bread was sandwiched between bread and then surrounded by bread. Figures.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 24 October 2002 14:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I have experienced mess at the Naval Academy twice. A horror of carbohydrates.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 24 October 2002 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Excellent subs there, yes yes indeed.

Tim Horton's Ham and Swiss with Chicken Noodles soup is to die for. Otherwise a fried eggplant and veal on foicetta at the Saint Lawrence Market basment is the proof of happiness existence.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 24 October 2002 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I think my dad is a fitness nut (to a large extent) precisely because of that experience.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 24 October 2002 15:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks Ned, now on to day two of the Naked Eyes Lunch Truck Express...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 24 October 2002 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:52 (twenty years ago)

you are SO right.

carly (carly), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

#1 pregnancy craving: sandwiches.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

What kind of sandwiches are you craving though, Teeny? Seems to me like "sandwich" means nothing without a list of ingredients.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

i'm gonna get me some BANH MI tomorrow

katrina vanden roffle (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:00 (twenty years ago)

i've been getting back to basics lately: pb&j in the morning, on toast. i am generally a more savoury sandwich fan, but it's working for me.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

Admit it. You just like bread. It's ok, I like bread, too.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

favorite sandwich of my youth: bacon and tomato, hold the lettuce and all condiments. But only homemade, so the bacon was extra fresh and greasy.

Are You Nomar? (miloaukerman), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

i like everything, i'm just not anti-bread like some saladists

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

Is artisan bread rockist?

naus (Robert T), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:19 (twenty years ago)

Not if it's good. Then it's just good-ist.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:24 (twenty years ago)

Bacon, sharp cheddar, an over-easy egg and roasted green chilies on whole wheat with mayonnaise. With Fritos and a glass of milk.

I might do this once or twice more in my life, but the old arteries are closing up just thinking about it.

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:26 (twenty years ago)

an over-easy egg

OMG you can eat almost anything as long as it has a delicious, buttery fried egg dripping over it.

I am an eggist.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
Jesus Christ! Sandwiches: you are the best!

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 02:25 (nineteen years ago)

Dude, I am feelin' that statement. I had a grilled ham and swiss on sourdough today. AWESOME.

I think I would put sandwiches above all other forms of food. There is just something about a great sammich.

Sandwiches: God of Food

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 04:22 (nineteen years ago)

Best sandwiches in Chicago: Hannah's Bretzels on LaSalle and (I think) Washington. The bretzels make them delicious.

GEAUX BEARS. (unclejessjess), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 05:11 (nineteen years ago)

I must make some more bread, to make more great sandwiches with.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 05:12 (nineteen years ago)

I was going to make a general post about prosciutto and mozarella sandwiches inspired by the specific Hannah's sandwich I had today and look at the shit that was waiting for me down at the bottom of this thread. Hannah's Bretzel rules.

A B C (sparklecock), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 05:13 (nineteen years ago)

Other best sandwiches in Chicago, Bari Foods on Grand

A B C (sparklecock), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 05:16 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
I am eating a Danish Blue, peanut butter, mustard and banana sandwich. It is the greatest thing ever.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 4 March 2007 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

In Russia a "sandwich" is one piece of bread with a one piece of a) ham, b) cheese, c) salami, or d) smoked salmon.

Seriously.

mitya, Sunday, 4 March 2007 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

In Russia sandwich makes you.

I'm sorry, I just couldn't help myself.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 4 March 2007 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

I am eating a Danish Blue, peanut butter, mustard and banana sandwich. It is the greatest thing ever

Good lord.

chap, Sunday, 4 March 2007 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

seven years pass...

SCENARIO: You made yourself a sandwich

Do you cut it in half before eating it? Is it an unnecessary formality or is it an exciting cross-section of your own stackwork?
