We are talking romantic as opposedly to family and friends showing general affection, I assume.

Can't remember, actually. I believe somewhere in high school, but that could be a fib.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I totally wasted my first real kiss on this guy who seemed to have slept with every girl in my high school that was putting out (not me!). He took me - this is painful - country line dancing , drove really fast, and parked the car in a typical make out spot on a hill. He'd broken the hearts of several friends. Out of nowhere, he says, "Sarah, I have a confession. I've always had a crush on you," and then laid it on me before I could oppose. Fortunately, it ended there with one quick kiss.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I was 12 or 13, I went to a birthday party in a close friends house, he's 2 years older than me but it was his sister's party, she's my age. I can't remember how it happened, lots of embarassment and giggling I guess, it was all very set up in a childish way, but I ended up snogging this girl who shall remain nameless. The funny thing is the older we got the more we all fancied her and the less chance any of us had with her. Don't get me wrong, it was all downhill for me from there. I guess at that age there was more pleasure in the first kiss as a bit of a rite of passage than the actual thing itself........

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I was 15, I think. We were standing on her porch saying good night and we were both nervous. We both closed our eyes too soon and she wound up kissing my chin. We laughed at the stupidity, then got down to some SERIOUS TONSIL HOCKEY YEAH.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

i was 16. she was a shy, petite girl that i acted like a jerk around afterwards. cleared things up with her in june this year.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:45 (twenty-three years ago)

and it was at a party, a bad party. that night my friend got drunk, lying facedown in the shrubbery and intermittently throwing up.

i didn't kiss another girl for a long time after that.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I wasted my first real kiss on an asshole (though I didn't realize it until a few months later). I was 15, we were sitting on his bed, and it was shockingly nice until his bratty little sister walked in and started yelling, "Nory and *** are kissing!" over and over again at the top of her lungs.

nory (nory), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:49 (twenty-three years ago)

It was with a girl.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:50 (twenty-three years ago)

i was 17. it was in a crap nightclub in cambridge (the underground one near the train station... can't remember the name) at some indie night. anyway we'd been flirting for most of the evening and i finally ended up snogging him to "girl from mars", haha. pulled him quite a few times over the following months but it never went anywhere.

first girl i kissed was (i think - not so sure about this one) a friend of a friend in cambridge after a formal dinner. trinity men's boat club had just rowed over in the bumps so the boaties were burning a boat on the backs to celebrate; everyone was standing on the bridge watching, we glanced at each other and then got down to some serious snogging. unfortunately we were both so drunk that we then proceeded to get seriously frisky in a room full of our friends who were doing there best to ignore us/tell us to get a room. v embarassing.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Prom. I kid you not.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:58 (twenty-three years ago)

i forget! how sad is that?

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 20:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This older guy I met at Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island when I was 14. In a stall in the changing room. He looked like one of the Bottoms brothers. Probably not my first kiss, but the first romantic one. I thought kissing was gross and pointless before that.

Arthur (Arthur), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 20:07 (twenty-three years ago)

haha i just remembered and now i'm depressed as fuck. :'(

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 20:11 (twenty-three years ago)

jess-are you as depressed as when you listened to anticon?

my first (and last!) kiss was in primary school.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh wait, do those count? Because I used to chase this girl around the playground when I was 8 and kiss her. (Nowadays they would call that "sexual harrassment"; back then it was "annoying behavior".)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

*dan is making me cry*

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 20:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't remember, actually.

I do remember my father telling me when I was 13 that when I kissed a girl, "Make sure to grab her tits after the second or third kiss." And THIS IS GREAT ADVICE!

Yancey (ystrickler), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 20:34 (twenty-three years ago)

As if you'd forget!

Aaron A., Wednesday, 23 October 2002 20:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Because I used to chase this girl around the playground when I was 8 and kiss her.

Oh lord, I tried that too. 3rd grade perv, that was me...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Strangley the first ever time I got drunk too.

I was 14 and in the back garden at my friends' house. They were a very large two-divorce family. I was with some friends of one of the older brothers. I remember Tom R who was very nice looking trying it on. But he had a well know thing for my friend Natalie and i didn't want to be the runner up, so Tim H it was. Nice enough, long blonde hair and a green sweatshirt. He had to bend down a lot. I remember thinking 'so this is what it's like'. I am still convinced my life would have gone in an entirely different direction, for better or worse, if I had kissed Tom R.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know - I can remember various kisses from the quickest peck working up to long-lasting tongue wrestling, and I don't know which to call the first in a romantic sense. No interesting stories about any of them, anyway.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 21:29 (twenty-three years ago)

My third date w/my first girlfriend took place in her basement, where we watched a movie. She sat on my lap, and finally I couldn't stand it anymore, so I kissed her. On the forehead. Then the chin. Then the right cheekbone, then the left, then everywhere else I could think of that I'd missed except her lips. Then she kissed me, hard. It rocked.

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 22:02 (twenty-three years ago)

i was eleven, it was behind the bikesheds at primary school. six of us - three girls and three boys - played a game where we had to kiss each other WITH TONGUE, EWWW! nicholas wasn't very good, he was too slobbery. on the whole (do not read on if you hate SEXISM!) i think women kiss better than men. about half of men i have kissed have been crap, but i have never had a bad kiss from a woman.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 22:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Horrible, horrible, horrible. I was a very drunk and very inexperienced sixteen year old at a friend of a friend's house party. I didn't even realize that I was doing anything wrong until someone pointed out that I had my eyes open. Bluergh! I'm much better now, thank you.

I'm seeing a pattern here, by the way. Imbibing booze --> kissing. Do you all think if I get sufficiently inebriated someone will come kiss me? ;)

, Wednesday, 23 October 2002 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Anna is this THE Tim H?

Mine was at a disco. I think looking back I was a dreadful kisser.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 23:19 (twenty-three years ago)

i wish mine had been at a disco!

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 23:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I think expectations are low at a disco. A friend of mine snogged someone at a disco and got a letter 2 days later saying "I never want to see you or hear from you again" so relatively speaking I can't have been that bad. Someone else I knew had his first kiss at a disco and then wrote a FIFTY LINE POEM about it in rhyming couplets which he submitted to the Creative Writing section of the school magazine. One couplet went like this:

"She kissed me like a hoover would
A lot of suction - it felt good"

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 23:30 (twenty-three years ago)

that is the best poem ever.

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 23:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm glad that, like the Snake poem, this couplet will now be burned on everyone else's brains not just mine.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 23:38 (twenty-three years ago)

In my case it was my freshman year at college. A guy was chatting me up at a party and I went back to his room with him long enough for the kiss; after that I got so agitated that I left. The kiss was good, as I recall; the downside was that I wasted too much of my college time running after him, when it was clear he wasn't worth the effort.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 23:38 (twenty-three years ago)

My first kiss was corrupt and ugly. We used to get drunk and hang around on the street every Saturday night. One time my friend got off with this sensationally unattractive girl we bumped into. We laughed at him all week (I laughed at him a lot). Next Saturday, of course, I managed to get off with her and was glad, in my desperation, to slide my hand into her dungarees (she was really wearing dungarees). It was cynical kissing: I knew the mockery I was setting myself up for (in fact, I was mocked as I did it), and I did not like her at all, but still I wanted to do it, and was glad.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Thursday, 24 October 2002 01:23 (twenty-three years ago)

13, school dance, sober.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 24 October 2002 08:57 (twenty-three years ago)

15, boy down the street, amazing kisser, I spent years being bitterly disappointed afterwards - sometimes I wish he'd been crap.

Plinky (Plinky), Thursday, 24 October 2002 09:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I was 16, but had known him forever (our mothers went to antenatal classes together). We rode our bikes to the sandpits on Horsell Common and talked for a while. He took a 10p coin out of his pocket and suggested a game: "Heads I kiss you, tails you kiss me". After a couple of pecks, he suggested French. The coin was soon forgotten. I remember having to surreptitiously wipe slobber from around my mouth when he wasn't looking. He was very eager to get under my jumper.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 24 October 2002 09:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Not counting spin the bottle/dares etc where mouths were kept firmly shut, my first kiss was in a nasty nightclub in Brighton with a random lecherous stranger. He had a beard and stank. I was drunk and trying to show off to my much cooler French exchange partner. Terrible all round.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 24 October 2002 09:18 (twenty-three years ago)

school disco -- in the large assembly hall in the school, some evening or another. must have been 12 or 13. it was v weird, as there was a strange sort of circle of people just going round kissing each other for practice (ick, so B&S). It was all very mechanical and quite frank, sort of "ok, now open yr mouth like this, no more like...". god that sounds weird.

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 24 October 2002 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

14, Natasha K, in the corner at a party after 1/4 of a can of shandy (me) and a bottle of wine (her). It was silly and barely a kiss, but it counts.

I am yet to share a proper kiss with a boy.

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 24 October 2002 11:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom - no sadly I was not aquainted with Mr Hopkins when I was 14.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 24 October 2002 11:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I kissed Rhiannon when I was about 4 but if you're talking about with pash and open mouths then I was in my second year at university, aged 19. It was a kind of game that went on far too long with my flatmates and got out of control.

Am I the oldest first kiss, apart from Graham and Melissa, who haven't got there yet?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 October 2002 12:07 (twenty-three years ago)

There is an ocean in our way, it's not that easy.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 24 October 2002 12:15 (twenty-three years ago)

On a bus in Washington D.C. 8th grade, field trip. I was entertaining my grade school crush Julie with a puppet show using a stuffed Cookie Monster I had bought for my little sister. Everyone got off the bus to go use the restroom and we stayed and got to laughing and finally she planted one on me. I was a mess, my heart felt light. It was soon interrupted by some kid storming the bus asking us if we wanted a "Grasshopper Cookie". I swear this was the field trip to Hornyville, USA because everyone was making out. Years later I met up with this girl again and well ya know.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 24 October 2002 12:27 (twenty-three years ago)

there is a story about mine (sort of) on my web site. it might be the best thing I've ever written.

Josh (Josh), Friday, 25 October 2002 04:38 (twenty-three years ago)

this might be a case of too much information, but i had just vomited. he didn't notice. it was up against a car and his face was rough and salty.

minna (minna), Friday, 25 October 2002 04:40 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
out the front of my house, under the light post, next to her car. i was 17. we had promised not to kiss till we finished school. but with 2 weeks left we somehow couldnt resist. our lips met and it was beautiful, till my mum caught us, and screamed out the window... dododo

Reub, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The funny thing is the older we got the more we all fancied her and the less chance any of us had with her. Don't get me wrong, it was all downhill for me from there.

AMEN.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I was 12 and she was 14, so I was obviously the don. She was called Rachel. Her bossy friend Anna(?) told her to snog me. It was in the stairwell at the youthclub. I went along and played Warhammer for the first hour and danced in the disco bit for the last hour every week, except for when we got on the Gauntlet and stayed there all night. This was the only incident of kissing at the youthclub for me, I fear.

I have kissed about three boys properly. And I dunno how many women. A dozen, perhaps?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I was 14, on holiday in France. Myself and a some newly-made holiday type friends had been taking mucho advantage of being able to buy beer at the bar LEGALLY. We were fairly well-oiled but still largely coherant and all went down to the beach to light a fire and carry on partying.

Myself and my friend James stopped to pick up jumpers on the way and bumped into a pair of girls we'd been chatting to earlier that day - identical twins, and far foxier than anyone my infinitely shier, sober school self would ever have dared to approach. We took the twins back to the bar, flirted with each other for a while and then kissed in the moonlight. Then we swapped twins, just to see if we could get away with it. We did.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Reading this thread is like the best Busted album ever. Especially Tom's rhyming couplet.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

14, at a track meet at my high school, some mulleted boy from another school who was pretty cute, we just kind of randomly met and started flirting, and he took me in the school bus and we made out, it was exhilarating! I'm not sure I ever saw him again.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Dear Mad Magazine Letters:

I never thought it could happen to me...

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I was 13. It was at Myrtle Beach, while the both of us were vacationing with our families. I didn't tell her it was my first kiss. Her family left a few days before mine did, so I spent like 2 days just walking on the beach sighing. I never saw or heard from her again after that. I don't even know her last name.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

that was in response to yetimike's post.

perhaps High1!ghts for Ch!1dren Letters would have been a better choice?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Unless you count the time when I was 6 when that 12 year old girl who babysat stuck her tongue down my throat. I don't. Although it wasn't necessarily unfun.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

AAAAHHHH!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"Dear Mad Magazine Letters: I never thought it could happen to me..."

hah!!! totally otm --

ohhh shit you don't think i was lying about my first kiss do you? i surely would have made myself older than 8, and been in a hot tob with older women...

yetimike (McGonigal), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

no no, I didn't think that you were lying.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Boy - 13, my first boyfriend, in his room, while his friends were watching tv outside. He was the first person I fell in love with. It lasted two weeks!

Girl - 15 (I think), with my best girlfriend, we weren't in love but we made out frequently.

Hanna (Hanna), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

The first girl I kissed was really ugly and mean!!!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

that's cuz she was really ME!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

It happened in the IFC during my mate's set, which should be enough to confirm that I beat N.'s record :)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I need a kiss.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd kiss you, Luna, but I'm nervous about having appeared too flirty with you lately.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, the first girl that I kissed proper was my best friend's girlfriend who I lusted after constantly. That was 10-12 years ago, and he still doesn't know! (We're not that close anymore, tho!).

The girl I referred to above, I actually had my first quasi-"relationship" with and she was very mean and mindfucky (sadly, a different kind of fucky than the one I was interested in). Anyway...

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I totally wasted my first kiss on a guy who was just a friend - a sleazeball, womanizer guy at that. We went out ONCE and he asked if he could kiss me because he'd always wanted to and I was like MEH. So we did and it was quick and weird. I was, um..., 16.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Luna -- just press your lips to the screen, sugar.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Huckleberry, you can flirt with me anytime.

Jeanne, pucker up, buttercup.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

13? 14? between 6th and 7th grade with a girl a year older than me in my new neighborhood; she was my 'girlfriend' for a little while after that but after that summer I never really saw her again I don't think. She was a cutie, though.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 18 December 2003 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

age 14 or 15? In my first boyfriend's car. Phil Collins was on the radio (aaarrrrrgh, but then some other better songs came on), and the guy was all drooly. I'd had no idea that kissing involved SO MUCH SPIT. I was very glad to learn later that it doesn't have to be that way.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 18 December 2003 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

First kiss: Was with a boy who shall remain nameless. We were both 18. It was a "welcome to college" dance during freshman orientation. He and I were both awkward and shy and were trying to get each other to feel comfortable there by talking (pure chit-chatty stuff) and dancing occasionally, and then we kissed each other on the lips. It was purely innocent -- just a peck. We lost track with each other, though. Last time I heard anything about him I was 20 and I'd found out he had gotten engaged, which surprised me.

*laughing* This just sounds so 1950s.

Tenacious Dee (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 18 December 2003 03:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I spent a Halloween party sitting on the stairs chatting to boy instead of partying. Then he asked me to walk with him to get his bike, and then he asked "Do you wanna go make out on the steps of Mead Hall?" !!!!!! Fantastic!

And then he said he was in love with this girl Amy, and a few weeks later he kind of disappeared from campus, setting a pattern for basically all my future hookups.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 18 December 2003 04:05 (twenty-two years ago)

As a kid I often used to kiss girls, so I really can't remember my first kiss.

Having reached puberty, I think I first kissed a girl when I was 14, but it was a soft and innocent kiss, no tongue involved. It involved some variation of truth or dare, if I remember correctly.

My first tongue kisses with boys and girls I had while in high school, I was maybe 16 or 17. They mostly happened in a drunken state at parties, so I can't even remember who they were with. Back then I had the opinion that boys are better kissers than girls.

My first really, really romantic kiss I had with my first girlfriend, when I was 18. I also lost my virginity to her.

My last kiss I had with a guy, a student mate of mine, at an uni party after some steamy slow dancing. Afterwards he began to question my supposed heterosexuality. I had no good answers.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 18 December 2003 10:02 (twenty-two years ago)

that's so hott tuomas!

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Huh?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

What was the hot part there?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

a) being comfortable in your body/sexuality to touch and kiss boys without it being a big thing

b) boy on boy action = HOTT

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know, it sometimes might even be a problem that touching/kissing guys is not a big thing for me. You see, the guy I was kissing with happens to be gay, and it might be that he took my actions a bit more seriously than I did. Nowadays I try to act sensibly with these things, but when I'm drunk enough my lust for guys often makes me do stupid things.

first real kiss was in middle school (12 ish?) when i went camping with a friend and her family somewhere along lake michigan.

we met these older guys and flirted for ages, and one afternoon, up in the sand dunes, he kissed me. it was wonderful. when i left, he gave me a note with his phone number and 'i love you' on it. so sweet! (by the way, he has such a perfect name for this story... burnh3art!)

follow up: i ended up dating a guy a few years later that turned out to be his friend, the guy that my friend liked. and i saw mr. burnh3art about 5 years later and he was beautiful! but had a girlfriend.

so not a bad experience, really.

god it felt late to me

It does for everyone who's over 14 when it happens.

wow that sounds awesome. i was up in the dunes a lot but nothing like that ever happened to me.

i think i actually had some kisses with the daughter of a family friend but i was so young that the memories are kind of buried and it didnt mean much anyway.

years later i was visiting brown university and randomly spotted armenian girl like 100 yards away on the other side of the quad... she had written me a letter the year before to which i had never responded (shame on me) so i panicked and ducked into some building and never saw her again.

i was 12, and on a white water rafting trip with a friend's church youth group. on the way home (in the backseat of the church van) i had a full on makeout session with this guy who i thought at the time was totally dreamy. about an hour after we returned home, my friend informed me that John was 17, a senior in high school, and sold pot. it was kind of like an afterschool special. yikes!
