You can set it so that no one except those you list, or only those on your Buddy list, or etc., can see you/IM you -- which is generally what I do (I use Trillian, actually, but I think AIM itself has the same feature).

And for the really advanced AIM user, you can put you away message to fool certain people into thinking that you're gone, but still talk to others in a normal IM conversation without your away message popping up in the middle - i think its only a Mac program that does this, and no, I'm ignorant of the hows, so don't reckon that I use it!

My aim name is my Login Name here. I am often up super late at night (CST in the states) and occasioanlly on the instant messenging service.

What do you think of the aim? I find it is horribly annoying a lot of the time, but it can ocassionally be entertaining. Especially if both parties decide to completely eschew reality and get into bizarre possibly drunken conversations the likes of which have never been seen.
