Who smokes the most?

Rules of this thread: you post the number of cigarettes, on average, you smoke each day. You only do so if that number is higher than the previous poster.

So, I start: I think about 30.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Thursday, 24 October 2002 01:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Before I gave up the first time, I smoked between 30 and 35 a day.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 24 October 2002 01:41 (twenty-three years ago)

End of thread?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 24 October 2002 01:41 (twenty-three years ago)

30 is quite a lot. i cannot beat that.

Dave M. (rotten03), Thursday, 24 October 2002 03:23 (twenty-three years ago)

40. (But I am QUITTING! I swear!!)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 24 October 2002 03:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Idiots?

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 24 October 2002 10:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Italians? (This != what Marksy said, obv)

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 24 October 2002 11:17 (twenty-three years ago)

obv. Though a lot them are.

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 24 October 2002 11:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm quite surprised by this. I thought people really existed with 80-a-day habits. I thought that was common.

I certainly didn't imagine that only two people would be able to beat my 30. I thought 30 was kind of normal. I mean 20 is the standard, isn't it, a packet a day? 30's just having a wee bit extra.

Well, I'm gonna cut down, then. I'm not having this.

Oh, the rules are relaxed: could anyone who wants to please say how many cigarettes they smoke (only if you do smoke - a million zeroes isn't exciting)? I'm interested to know.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Thursday, 24 October 2002 12:17 (twenty-three years ago)

4 cigs a day.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 24 October 2002 12:20 (twenty-three years ago)

about 30.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 24 October 2002 12:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I did some sums the other day and worked out it was 16.

I am in awe of those who smoke 100 a day. I just don't know how one would fit it in the day. I've never met one of these people, but I've read about them in magazines.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 October 2002 12:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Lawrence, is it exactly four cigarettes every day? Or is that an average. I ask because I used to smoke no more and no less than two every day for quite a while. Then I smoked more.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Thursday, 24 October 2002 12:28 (twenty-three years ago)

it's four per day during the work week. It's one right when I get home from work, one after my first beer, one after my second beer and then one more whenever. I may not smoke at all on the weekends (if I'm hungover) or smoke like crazy if I'm out and about.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 24 October 2002 12:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Between 5 and 20 depending on alcohol drunk/ deadline stress/ solitary time spent reading in cafes. That said, being properly drunk can push it up to 30.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 24 October 2002 13:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd smoke only 5 or 6 a day but the fact of being italian forces me to smoke me unconscious all the time...

francesco, Thursday, 24 October 2002 13:31 (twenty-three years ago)

most of these people are the sort who light a smoke and forget about it or walk away from it and light another one. they're probably only consuming 20-40 cigarettes worth of tobacco.

fields of salmon (fieldsofsalmon), Thursday, 24 October 2002 14:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Normally about 20-25, but like Anna I can push that figure up loads by being drunk, over excited, nervous, bored, writing an essay. Although with the drunken thing, I can never tell if I've smoked the whole pack or just been really generous in the pub.

Madeleine (Madeleine), Thursday, 24 October 2002 17:34 (twenty-three years ago)

8 or 9 a day, down from a pack a day.

Smoking is cool.

Aaron A., Thursday, 24 October 2002 17:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I gave up last December. Before then it was 15-20 a day. Now I allow myself one when out with smoking friends (I think I pinched one from Anna a while ago) on the condition that I am not allowed another for a minimum of two weeks. I have to have that kind of rule, or I'd be back on 15 a day a fortnight after just having the one. I've had about six or eight since April ~ 0.05 cigarettes a day, say.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 24 October 2002 17:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I topped out at ten day. If I have one know it feels like my throat is on fire the next day.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 24 October 2002 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Lately, only about 2-5. Used to be a lot more, though.

Mandee, Thursday, 24 October 2002 18:06 (twenty-three years ago)

hmmmmm i used to smoke a pack a day which was 25 - 30 depending on which size pack i bought.
gave up during pregnancy but am ashamed to say i have started again, I DONT KNOW WHY because after 9 months you would hope the addiction would be gone. obviously not.
now i have one a day, which i smoke a bit at a time hahaha, saving the butt ( disgusting hey ). hey im broke ok! its the only way i can afford it!

donna (donna), Thursday, 24 October 2002 18:10 (twenty-three years ago)

0.05

Kris (aqueduct), Thursday, 24 October 2002 18:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Martin Skidmore and Dr C = The ILE cigarette thieves.

(Although Gareth is well within his rights to say the same about me)

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 24 October 2002 19:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry Anna! I had planned when I started this fortnightly thing that I might keep getting cigs from the same person, then buy her a pack after a bit, but it's been a different person just about every time.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 24 October 2002 20:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I only smoke green cigarettes but its hard to find a single one let alone 40

Honda, Thursday, 24 October 2002 20:27 (twenty-three years ago)

It's fine. Because you don't do it that often and Dr C apologises so much and so sweetly your heart melts (and he told me that it was like being a Raymond Chandler novel when I gave him a light because I had red/brown nail varnish on - way to win Anna Brownie Points).

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 24 October 2002 20:37 (twenty-three years ago)

About 7 a day. 23 if I'm drinking. It bothers me because of the whole cancer thing and also because it makes me phlegm up loads. But it feels so so so nice.

Been smoking dirty cheapshit Lambert and Butlers for the last couple of years but recently was given 80 Silk Cut Ultra which are absolutely DISGUSTING and take real lip effort to smoke.

Ian SPACK, Thursday, 24 October 2002 22:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been in the presence of someone who regularly smokes between 50 and 75 a day, and finishes every single one. It's frightening that he can still breathe.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 24 October 2002 22:56 (twenty-three years ago)

75 a day? jesus. those are the people pushing up the emphysema statistics, it's not us, right?

and i'd say about 15.

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 25 October 2002 00:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, about 15. Who else here rolls their own, though? It's like learning a craft! And you can't taste (as much) chemical content!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 25 October 2002 01:39 (twenty-three years ago)

i smoke about 10 a day, unless im drinking. i had it down to 5 at one point, but when youre unemployed theres a lot less to do with your day...damn, reading this thread makes me want a cigarette.
