I once almost caught ameobic meningitis off some natural hot spring in New Zealand (it was called Kerosin, I should have known) but that's another story.

I mean 'amoebic'. And I didn't really. But I could have.

Must admit, I'm a bit suss of them myself. Ditto public swimming pools, especially those which have had any number of either helplessly incontinent or just malicious kids in them. Rather go for the bath/radox/candles thing at home. At least Radox doesn't cause ame....amoe....ami.....that thing that you just said, does it. Does it?

My sister went to England about ten years ago and when she visited the Roman baths in Bath they told her that there was an outbreak of meningitis, and not to even touch the water.

If it looks like they keep it clean go ahead and indulge - that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

two years pass...
This thread has such great potential. It makes me sad that there were only 3 responses, and only 2 from people who were not N.

Normally I'm not a germ freak, but public, non-moving, non-chlorinated/ozonated forms of water that are *hot*? The correct answer = sauna, please.

I use spas, and I'm okay.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

but chlorinated ones, right? and aren't you afraid of public pools?

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

oh...yeah.

I am afraid of public pools because since I was a child I have always worried about what would happen if a whale surfaced benaath me.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

it happens. don't go to that whale's n wine festival in mendocino.

Dr. Wilkinson's. The rooms were a bit spartan, but the treatments were excellent. If you're going to do the mud, try for the first appointment of the day when it's fresh.

i went to the thermes in luz-st.-sauveur in the pyrenees and got a massage-bath-jacuzzi-thing. the first time the waterjet action changed it scared me half to death, i bolted straight up, i thought the entire bath was going to explode.

There is a hot spring here that has an indoor bit with a health club spa/hot smimming pool. Outside they raise alligators in the hot spring, and you can see the gators through the spa's windows.
