Tied to a Desk All Day

How much of your work consists of sitting at a desk? Do you do much walking about in the course of a working day?

I ask because, apart from trips to the toilet, coffee machine and water cooler (none of which are more than 30ft away) I only leave my desk at lunch time and spend the rest of the day rooted to the spot.

I don't even leave my desk at lunchtime. I have spent the past three hours taking minutes in Easterhouse though.

being an escapologist i tend to spend most of my working day tied to a chair.

Sometimes I get to swim for a bit.

In my old job i was alwys on the move, as it was a support rĂ´ and so it was a requirement that I got up and visited ppl at their desks to find out what was wrong with their pooters etc. Consequently, I knew over a hundred ppl there in comparison with the handful I know here.

Sometimes, I get to go out to properties to meet inspectors, clients, agents, etc as I work in real estate. However, I do end up spending most of my time at my desk - much more so now that I've been ILXing. I try to take little trips around the office (to the FAX machine, printer...) to keep from going numb.

it consists of quite a bit of the day.

I do experiments, collect the data and use the computer to analyse it (and then i check ILXOR of course).

going numb! Yes, seriously, I find that happens.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 25 October 2002 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I am tied to my bed all day, kinda, cos I have to sit on the edge of it to use my computer. Bearing in mind that almost all social intereaction and all work that I do during the daytime happens while I'm online, this makes up a lot of my time.

Every now and then I worry about RSI - today it's slight neckular discomfort. More seriously, I wonder how I'm going to be able to fit a back-supporting chair into zero space. Hmm.

My desk is also the reception, so yes I'm stuck here a lot of the time. I don't mind too much though. The small snatched trips to the photocopier and the toilet are actually more depressing.

stupid radiation

Radiation is GOOD for you. Make sure you get the RDA each day

Mostly rooted in front of a PC. Apart from when I go for coffee, to the loo, or for a smoke (which is a lot). If I ever stop smoking I'll die of boredom. Unfortunately if I don't stop smoking I'll die of cancer. Does anyone know which is quickest?

Some meetings and stuff take me away from it, maybe an hour a day on average. But also I'm pretty restless, and I get up and walk around and talk to people, sometimes even about work matters. I move a lot less here at home on ILX.

Only 1 hour 55 minutes more of being tied to my desk!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 25 October 2002 18:02 (twenty-three years ago)

this thread was a major disappointment

Josh (Josh), Friday, 25 October 2002 18:43 (twenty-three years ago)

about five and a half hours (school except for choir, lunch, and in between classes).

Maria (Maria), Friday, 25 October 2002 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I get up a lot. A few weeks ago I bought this mini bicycle (6 inch wheels) - we ride it around the office once in a while. As a wacky IT guy, I can get away with that.

I have some friends that are 'wachy IT guy's. I'm so jealous
