Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 25 October 2002 22:15 (twenty-three years ago)

can i have your old one?

chaki (chaki), Friday, 25 October 2002 22:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, I've noticed that black computers are faster too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 25 October 2002 22:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I gather you'd recommend this brand and model, so what kind is it? Where did you get it?

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 25 October 2002 22:43 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a black one, j.lu!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 25 October 2002 22:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Our newer computers at work are all black too, and they are much faster than the old grey ones. The conclusion is obvious. I shall paint this, my home computer, black, and that will make it go faster. Do you think it would go even better with a stripe down the side?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 25 October 2002 22:46 (twenty-three years ago)

It is common knowledge that you computer goes faster if you keep it in the fridge.

gazza, Friday, 25 October 2002 22:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Welllll...my current computer is dark gray. But it doesn't go so fast.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 25 October 2002 22:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I was allowed to order my new computer with any specs I wanted, so I totally decked it out with maximum RAM, processor speed, video-RAM, etc, etc. I do Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop and Word all day long (and, er, netsurfing) and I don't find it to be a whit faster than my older (3 year-old) one. And it's black. Hmmm.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 25 October 2002 22:53 (twenty-three years ago)

mine is white and it burns

jack, Saturday, 26 October 2002 00:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, you know that black computers are just naturally faster. It's all genetics...

[email protected] (biscuit), Saturday, 26 October 2002 02:01 (twenty-three years ago)

once you go black, you never go back

maybe, Saturday, 26 October 2002 03:39 (twenty-three years ago)

my computer is silver, it's from the future.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 26 October 2002 07:23 (twenty-three years ago)

what about pretty colorful macs? how fast are they? being a total flake who only needs a word processor and the internet, i want one as they're so pretty.

Maria (Maria), Sunday, 27 October 2002 01:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Coloured Macs are faster too. GO COLOUREDS!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 27 October 2002 01:51 (twenty-three years ago)

'Course, it doesn't mean I'd let one in my house, y'know...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 27 October 2002 01:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Black computers are almost certainly slower than their beige counterparts.

Andrew (enneff), Sunday, 27 October 2002 03:50 (twenty-three years ago)

The fastest computer I've ever seen up close and personal was solid black. (It was also 2500 lbs per cabinet, and seven feet tall...) My fastest computer at home is some weird beige/purple thing.

Dave Fischer, Sunday, 27 October 2002 05:50 (twenty-three years ago)

the fastest computer in my house has a black hard drive and keyboard and a beige monitor (there's been part switching going on in this house). dun dun dun!

Maria (Maria), Sunday, 27 October 2002 17:55 (twenty-three years ago)

The fastest computer I own is light-grey titanium, and the slowest are dark grey.

Graham (graham), Sunday, 27 October 2002 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Gosh, it's almost as if my theory that black computers are faster might be wrong!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 27 October 2002 18:27 (twenty-three years ago)

(amongst my family: the second slowest is beige, second fastest is turquoise and white, and the middle one is black)

Graham (graham), Sunday, 27 October 2002 18:29 (twenty-three years ago)

(does it work inversely for laptops Martin?)

Graham (graham), Sunday, 27 October 2002 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I have not studied this for laptops, possibly because I have only ever used black ones.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 27 October 2002 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I had a friend who produced jungle and he got a chance to hang out with Ed Rush in his studio. Ed Rush told him that he'd just swapped all his black equipment out for silver and everything sounded better! Of course this was like 5 years ago.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 28 October 2002 01:13 (twenty-three years ago)

My IBM T20 laptop is black, but my new desktop is also black... the desktop kicks the IBM's arse. Applies creative filters to 20Mb files in Photoshop in 3 seconds.

Just made myself a nice wooden frame for my TFT screen that I made from spare parts...

So my computer is now Black with solid redwood bits!

Perry Bernard (panterus), Monday, 28 October 2002 05:34 (twenty-three years ago)

The coolest computer mod I've seen to date is the PC Coffee Maker in a recent PC Gamer (may have even been this month's; I don't remember).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 28 October 2002 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

has anyone ever heard of Medion PCs?

gareth (gareth), Monday, 28 October 2002 13:02 (twenty-three years ago)

zx-81. QED.

Jeff W, Monday, 28 October 2002 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

i think this first one is a joke that's been photoshopped up:
http://www.vidbay.com/pics/pcCoffeeMaker.htm

The fastest PCs at my work are black.

I hope this trend towards making all consumer electronics black again (started by Playstation 2?) continues. It is clearly best. Take your brushed champagne titanium and stick it up your arse.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 28 October 2002 15:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Ow. No thanks.
