How wild is this wind?

The wind in London is scarey today. My doors and windows and walls won't stop shaking. Yesterday the tree outside my window still had its leaves, and its naked now. Has anyone been outside today? Is it possible to stand up and stuff?

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Sunday, 27 October 2002 13:55 (twenty-three years ago)

here in holland it's going gothic...the window of the overside neighbours flew open and the glass has just fallen out...it's dangerous...

see last tread, who had it first london or rotterdam?

I keep hearing the fencing around my garden rattling andhaving to check that it hasn't fallen down. All okay so far.

i was walking to tate across blackfriers bridge and walking straight took some effort. i also had the urge to giggle about it for some reason.

I'm going out to a gig on the opposite side of London this evening... the journey could be... interesting.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 27 October 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

its pretty bad. my door handle is fucked so I can't close the door because enough wind (all windows closed) gets through to push it open.

also I've been listening to the Annette Kerbs solo guitar alb today. a guitarist from berlin who can v v quiet, but she also can be loud as she plays against tape as well...anyway, its annoying becuz i can't quite get hold of the quiet bits so i turn it up loud and when she switches to 'loud' mode it catches me unawares so I have to switch the volume control which is a tad annoying..

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 27 October 2002 16:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I went out to the park this morning. My dog loved running around in the wind. It was kinda hard to walk at times! I loved it too. (But I'm glad I wasn't out for too long!)

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 27 October 2002 16:38 (twenty-three years ago)

there was an uprooted tree right across a main road in greenwich, many boarded up places, and a car had gone through the railings somewhere near denmark hill

One of my dining room windows blew in yesterday morning! It's a large wooden sash window, and the entire thing came crashing in onto the floor. Luckily nobody (including insane dog) was hurt, and the damage is all repaired now. Also had a power cut from about 9 o'clock yesterday morning until the middle of this afternoon, which was rubbish. My house relies on electricity - no mains gas - but I lit a big roaring log fire (good for making toast in front of!), and I had a small camping gas stove so at least I could boil a kettle and have a cuppa tea. It was like starring in my own episode of Survivor.

Glad it's all back to normal now.

map, Thursday, 11 December 2025 02:26 (six months ago)

wind is something we don't have enough of where i live imo.

on the other hand the near-constant wind in wyoming would drive me crazy.

map, Thursday, 11 December 2025 02:28 (six months ago)

My three year old yelled at the wind when it was too noisy recently. “Stop it wind, stop hitting the house. It is very rude.”

treeship 2, Thursday, 11 December 2025 02:31 (six months ago)

iirc the great salt lake is drying out/turning to poison? perhaps better to be becalmed

iirc the great salt lake is drying out/turning to poison? perhaps better to be becalmed

right? i think the danger is a little "the sky is falling," personally speaking. the concentrated layer of car pollution that accumulates within the first few hundred feet of air above the valley floor during winter inversions is much more toxic afaict. whatever sediment is under that salty brine can't be worse than microplastic soup. but if it does become worse a part of me can't help but hope it .. cleanses the valley, so to speak. hopefully by then i'll be gone from here.

wind is rude, absolutely. essential to its charm.

map, Thursday, 11 December 2025 02:44 (six months ago)

mookieproof's list is incomplete. as my witness I call this:

A Way Out Here They′ve Got A Name For Wind And Rain And Fire
The Rain Is Jack The Fire Is Joe And They Call The Wind Maria
