Hip Hip Hooray On My Special Day

Well, it's not me that's been given birth to today, but it sure feels like it.

Culmination of a ten year dream, etc. etc. My album is coming out today. Yeah, I've had album launch parties for other people's albums that I played on, but this is different. This is my baby. I made this. And now it's real. It didn't feel real until I went out and saw it in a shop this morning.

Say congratulations or something...

Canadian trio The Lollies (now based in London) with their debut album of catchy bubblegum pop melodies and classic 60s girl group harmonies, mixed with an indie garage punk attitude. Every song is a trashy, tinny lesson in no-frills punk pop, with rapier wit lyrics - The Ronettes/Shangri-las played by The Ramones. From the label that brought you the Ant from Hefner solo albums. "Head bang those pigtails! Jangle those bangles! The quiet-grrrl revolution continues with the pan-American Lollies and their sugary, Hole-with-humour garage guitar pop" - The Source. "Shangri-Las, Kenickie, Rezillos, B52S, all present and correct, frugging in white PVC Courreges boots to that luvverly Farfisa boogie beat" - Careless Talk Costs Lives. For fans of Sleater Kinney, Kenickie and Talulah Gosh.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 28 October 2002 22:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Have just come back from the launch, it was great. Canada House looks like a cross between Nash room at ICA and a pub, very weird.

Kate looked and sounded fabulous and I think I left her in the middle of a successful pull.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 28 October 2002 23:05 (twenty-three years ago)
