I know, I know, you wanna vote 12-grain or whole wheat or English muffin or something. This is not that. This is a battle of two tangy breads and only one champion can emerge. Will it be rye, with its noble delicatessen sandwich history, or sourdough, the outlaw of the lawless west? there will be tears, and they will be mopped up with a delicious crust, but will that crust be seeded, or will it rely on a starter passed down in clay pots by prospectors from the Nevada silver mines? Technically, much rye IS sourdough - you can use a sourdough starter to make rye bread. Practitioners of this sort of pedantry will be offered an untoasted slice of Home Pride Butter Top Wheat and cheerfully shown the door.
