so the other night this guy robbed me in the lobby of my block of flats as i went in. he had a knife and demanded money. didn't get much, but obv. not a nice experience. on the advice of friends i reported it to the police (mostly for the sake of getting them to take notice of problems in the area). anyway, now they (the police) want me to try and identify him from some photographs - thing is this guy (and his mate) knows where i live because he saw me open the door. i'm really f***in' angry about the whole thing but i don't want to leave myself open to revenge coz it's literally on my doorstep. is it a copout not to take it any further?

So are we to assume you've declined the Vigilante Justice option?

I would ID the guy and enroll in a martial arts class.

How does one enroll in a bigger knife?

I'd ask the police about the actual incidence of retaliation against those who have reported such things. Bear in mind that if you back off from police involvement these goons could decide to go after you again because they think you're a relatively soft touch.

I would have let him try to stab me and see how far he could get with that knife up his arse.

Cops often don't take things like that into consideration. I would drop it. You've already completed in getting the cops to take more notice of the area.
(Dan's post made me laugh out loud.)
