so, here I am in the internet shop, researching for my next interview when the slightly strange lady next to me stops typing stuff out from her notebook and gets a crystal out of her bag and dangles it over said book, after gazing intently at the crystalk she seems satisfied and carries on typing.

Is immoliation the only answer?

aaarrrgghh she's doing it again!!!!!!!

DUDE! Laugh openly! No need for violence, really.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been sniggering away all the time I've been there. She seems to be writing heartfelt letters to MPs.

Tell her about all the silicon crystals in the computer whose energy fields interfere destructively with those emitted by the quartz one she was dangling.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, could you try LAUGHING? If she's still there? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! While looking straight at her. This might be a bit too mean, maybe.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:11 (twenty-three years ago)

ha ha, she doesn't look like she'd appreciate it.

she's going to be at Soas tonight, look out Ptee!

chris (chris), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh well. I didn't really think she'd join in w/yr amusement at her ludicrous new ageisms.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

See, this is what happens: when technology becomes cheap & user-friendly enough for any arse to use it, they do. If she had any real consistency she would be trying to interface to the internet with an abacus hewn from wicker and twig.

Snowy Mann (rdmanston), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Laughing is insufficient! You have to point too. Maybe a bit of thigh slapping also.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 18:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I am really really disappointed in this thread

robin carmody (robin carmody), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I knew you liked the countryside Robin, but I didn't have you down as a crystal twiddler.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Quick, everyone point and laugh at Robin!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 20:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 20:53 (twenty-three years ago)

No, no. I love hippies.

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 20:54 (twenty-three years ago)

she's no hippie!! she am a stoooooodent.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

My mom has a special charm - a Chinese deity - that she uses the same way. She asks it a question and then holds the necklace out and waits to see which way it moves. My sisters and I try to be nice about it, but it can be kind of embarassing in public.
And, yes, my mom is a hippie.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Take up my 'pointing and laughing' strategy, Sarah!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:10 (twenty-three years ago)

the hippies were great!

no hippies: no incredible string band, no grateful dead, and that's just for starters.

hippies also gave free love. which is good.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

you should've asked her to tell your fortune, laughing is counterproductive

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought this thread would be about Ned

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 23:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Ahem.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 23:37 (twenty-three years ago)

whoops

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 23:51 (twenty-three years ago)

there's no such thing as free love

no hippies: no incredible string band, no grateful dead, and that's just for starters.

No ISB is bad, but I'd be grateful without the dead

it isn't the sentiment I objected to, so much as the way it was expressed
