My First Radio Playlist (Rough Draft), advice appreciated

Well I've to send a playlist to the radio station I'm meant to be working on, and so here it is. I've been a little cautious cos they're quite leftfield, but I think it's still a decent list, obviously I need to be told what I've forgotten etc. Generally though are there certain things I should watch out for in terms of music selection? Is there any trick to the order in which you play stuff? I've tried not to emulate a dj set too much cos I won't be mixing anyway, but it feels like a rounded enough list to me.

Anyway any general advice about presenting etc would be cool too.

The List
David Carretta-Vicious Game

Felix Da Housecat-What Does It Feel Like (Royksopp Remix)

Fischerspooner-The 15th

Freelance Hellraiser-I Just Can't Get Enough Purple Pills

DMX Krew-17 Ways to Break My Heart

FC Kahuna-Nothing Is Wrong

Medicine 8-Capital Rocka

Bent-Always

DJ Touche-Gimme My Money

Playgroup-Overflow

Dexter Vs Wanda Dee-I Don't Care/Gonna' Make You Sweat.

Phoenix-If I Ever Feel Better (Buffalo Bunch Remix)

Green Velvet-Answering Machine (X-Press 2 Remix)

Vitalic-La Rock 01

The Wildbunch-Danger High Voltage

The Rapture-House of the Jealous Lovers

The Stooges-TV Eye

(I realise you can see where I thought of a CD or artist and stuck down a few tracks but I may yet change the order, also it's a smallish list but is basically a sample of what I'll be doing)

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 15:48 (twenty-three years ago)

The Stooges-TV Eye

you rockist sell-out.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 15:52 (twenty-three years ago)

All very curious! So you have to send in a playlist first before you actual get on the air?

That said, I rather like it. :-) It would make a very good mix CDR or 2. Present with the knowledge that a little information on the music never hurts but that people are tuning in to hear the music and not yourself. This is why my DJ spots were always fairly brief. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 15:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sure it's fine Ronan. More important is the way you are between tracks. Have you got a jingle?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

No, should I get a friend to do it with me and we can make wacky jokes about those fat cats on capital hill?

I went for a subtle first track, thought about something massive and dancey but I think I might as well be a bit low key. I only really want to talk about the music, I guess I'll be a bit nervous at first, but having listened to the station alot I'd say I'll be as good as anyone else they have.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 15:56 (twenty-three years ago)

And yes I have to send them a sample, I think the guy might be just afraid I'll lash out the hard trance or something, it's a pretty well respected pirate.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan, U&K: a jingle with a massive oirish "FEEL THE VOIBE!" shout on it. ho ho. great list BTW (what i know of it (about 0.4 of it)) Not enough Sparks for my liking. what the hell though.

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

looks good (but surely there are better dmx krew tracks?)

oh and no "ooh i like it"? :'(

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

and where's cosmos or josh one, ro?

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

ha, that's the only one I have!

Yes I'll play other stuff too, I've forgotten shedloads of good things I'm sure. I haven't sent it to him yet, I'm going to go home and look at my CDs and make a final draft. I've obviously got to play "La Mouche" too.

I don't have Josh One unless my mate comes with me when I do the show, which he may well do, I will play Cosmos, definitely. And "Transition" needs to be played but again I don't have it. If my mate comes I also REALLY want to play that Thomas Vs Filterheads record with the massive "HAKA!" sample in it, it's a bit like DJ Rolando actually.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

how did you get this gig anyway ronan?

blueski, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

ha, i didnt mean that as 'how did YOU (of all people) get this gig' of course...just curious

blueski, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

The 2/3rds I know = vvv nice. I *still* haven't heard DMX Krew, should I?

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Looks a cracking line-up to me ronan.

stevo (stevo), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a pirate and I just emailed the guy who runs it and asked could I do it. I showed him some articles and stuff as a cv of sorts and he said no problem. I can't wait to be honest. You'll all be able to listen too cos it's streamed on the web. I guess I haven't quite got the gig yet until he sees the list and ok's it but I'm confident enough.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

The Stooges-TV Eye
you rockist sell-out.

Only if you play it between Felix Da Housecat-What Does It Feel Like (Royksopp Remix) and Fischerspooner-The 15th

brg30 (brg30), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry to hijack the thread for a post but i djed at a party on saturday night and played "contemplation", "take me with you", "transition", "inspiration", "birth of 3000", "hardtrance acperience", "sputnik one", "praying(cosmos dub)", "your love", "show me love(todd edwards mix)", "jaguar", "slave to the rhythm", "groove la chord" and many more. even managed to actually mix some of them. it was fantastic.

er, thanks for indulging me. ronan, knock 'em dead.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

You need that Thomas Vs Filterheads record Michael, like the deserts need the rain.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

thanks for the tip, i'll have a look for it.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:27 (twenty-three years ago)

2/3rds = 2-3?

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan, looks great, ahm, I'm not familiar with much of the toons but I'm glad the world will soon be introduced to one of ILX's own...

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:46 (twenty-three years ago)

2/3rds != 2-3!

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

23! (= oh ok then)

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 17:17 (twenty-three years ago)

1. Don't put all your favourite records in your first show
2. Don't assume anyone cares, or try to make them
3. some other things that propbably don't apply (the radio station at my college was just played on speakers in the canteen (=captive audience that toleartae you at best), with no talking, so a lot probably doesn't apply)

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

is this for power fm?

robin (robin), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 18:42 (twenty-three years ago)

no, is it R(onan)TE 2FM? "playlist policy" no corrs, no westlife, no U2, no david gray - sack all DJs over 35.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

this is all so passe. ;-) hehehe didn't the freelance hellraiser say he was gonna lay low for a while because "bootlegs are naff"?

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 18:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah Robin it is. What do you think? To be honest I reckon it's still not noodly enough for them but I'm sure I'll get a slot anyway.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

This is only the first step toward Ronan's internationally-acclaimed television dance-party THE GROIND.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't like the way you can't spell that without the word "groin"

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 19:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Your jingle-ID needs to be like that guy with the deep gruff voice who does all the movie trailers saying "Ronan...the Barbarian!" Not because it would be good, just to make us laugh.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

And we so do love laughing at Ronan.

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 20:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I actually can't bring myself to type a snarky reply, ever, in the 4 or 5 months you've been getting those cat claws out, because to be honest I think it would be just mean. (this is an unusual feeling for me)

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 20:46 (twenty-three years ago)

But Graham I'll play some Gabba for you ok?

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 20:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Gabba-gabba-hey!

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 20:56 (twenty-three years ago)

needs more Chicks on Speed

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 23:27 (twenty-three years ago)

haha Ronan yr jingle cld be 'Admire My Restraint'

Andrew L (Andrew L), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 23:40 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't know any of that stuff so it can't be any good.

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 00:15 (twenty-three years ago)

you don't know the stooges duane?!

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 03:42 (twenty-three years ago)

apart from that obv

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 04:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I know Andrew, I've been so assimilated, I love all those songs but I'm still big into cheesey stuff, when it comes to it. I mean I like the vocal remixes of everything!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 10:51 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah it looks like a good playlist, although as you so rightly point out a bit of gabber wouldn't go amiss...
i wouldn't worry about not being noodly enough, not everything on power is,they seem fairly open minded from what i've heard...what kind of slot are you going for?

robin (robin), Thursday, 31 October 2002 04:42 (twenty-three years ago)

you need some Run DMC in there. bling bling. bang bang.

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 31 October 2002 11:19 (twenty-three years ago)

You must ignore Andrew, Ronan - he regards playing anything more mainstream than a series of irregular clicks as selling out.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 31 October 2002 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going for whatever they give me I guess, the guy just said he'd let me know. I have loads of new records now though, so I can play a bit more stuff.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 31 October 2002 13:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, not that those are my only records, just that I have some stuff I really wanted on CD.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 31 October 2002 13:35 (twenty-three years ago)
