around 1990 -- i've talked a bit abt this on US threads -- i interviewed PETER DAOU, internet nuisance (#theresistance # imwithher, founder of VERRIT etc). He had made some NOT BAD trancedance 12"s for Nu-Groove with his wife vanessa, under the name of vandal and I was writing a piece for the wire on the outer limits of the genre (in this case bcz PD played jazz piano on some of them and looped it quite effectively).

digging thru a box of old interviews on cassette for a thing, i just discovered I also (again around 1990? the tape isn't dated and i'd have to dig around to find the piece) interviewed PAUL STAINES aka the internet's repulsive tory attack dog GUIDO FAWKES, at that time a promoter of illegal raves! (for a piece abt acid house culture for the new statesman lol) (i can safely say the piece was bad not good)

so anyway, who did YOU know and interract with before they became a complete menace?

I appeared on stage with N1ck F3rrari (and I guess he was in his early twenties) when I was a teenager, in an amdram production of The Happiest Days of Your Life. I hate to say it, but he was pretty universally liked by the entire company.

(also i was at school with tim booth of james but it was a big school and we never interracted and he's not really a villain per se, but a bit uninteresting)

My sister was in the same class in primary school as Fred "The Shred" Goodwin, or wee Freddie as he was known then. He went on to Paisley Grammar School though, I think selection in local schools was abolished the next year - something like that anyway.

i was at uni with T0m W4ts0n. he's a perfectly nice guy apart from every political opinion he has.

I grew up with and went to school with the Republic Of Ireland's first non-political serial killer: " N4sh is believed to be the first person in the history of the State to kill two people in two separate incidents, outside of those involved in terrorist offences." and has been banged up in Dublin prison since '97. My mum still sees his mum occasionally and makes comments to me about the apple not falling too far from the tree etc! He was more of a joke figure than someone who was feared, after he saw Pulp Fiction he started wearing gangster suits and doing his hair like Sam L Jackson.

I was a co-worker and not esp close friend of one K3n Kurs0n in the mid '90s, an ex-indie-rock dude who went on to ghostwrite a Rudolph Giuliani bestseller, help run Rudy's hilarious 2008 campaign for president, and become an editor/associate of Jared Kushner.

Julia Hartl3y-Br3wer sometime around 2000, when I worked in a media library. She was rude and the only user I ever snapped at, as a result.

a student worker I used to supervise went on to co-script an Adam Sandler film, does that count?

Oh, I also did some freelance work for J3rEmy Huntz's educational listings publishing company, in their London office, but as far as I know I never met him. It wasn't an especially nice company to work for tho.

is he married to or brother of vanessa dao?

akm, Friday, 2 February 2018 19:33 (six months ago) Permalink

was married to i think!

(hence "wife vanessa" in the o/p, tho tbf i may have misremembered this): the later widely mocked sexytiems releases which i have not actually heard also strongly suggest wife (and then she left him)
