It would be John the Baptist, if he's a saint (I presume he is), cos I collect postcards of the Salome story paintings. Sebastian too, he's cool.

Elisabeth, I just looked her up because I'm named after her and all and she's the patron saint of wives with unfaithful husbands!

Lucy, Jude, Sebastian (speaking as an atheist with a yen for Catholikitsch).

Well the things you find out.

Saint Anna, mother of the Virgin Mary, patron saint of women who can't bear children and of children's religious education.

My saint = k-mentalist.

Saint Sarah:
Profile

Jewish Old Testament Matriarch. Wife of the Patriarch Abraham. A convert from paganism, she was the first female convert to the faith of Abraham. Nomad in the desert of Canaan. When she was aged 90, she heard angels say she would finally become a mother. She laughed at the idea, and when her son was born, she named him Isaac from the word for laughter.

When I googled Saint Emma I got all excited having found this:

Saint Emma of the Forest: According to her faithful, Saint Emma's forest village was slaughtered by spawn during the Demonwar. Emma's mother hid her baby in the forest before she was killed. It is said that a great she wolf came across little Emma. Having recently lost her cubs the wolf took baby Emma as her own. Once Emma was grown she was the queen of the forest. No demon or its get dared approach her domain. The animals were at her command. She lived and fought throughout her entire life during the Demonwars until she was destroyed by a great demon named Balor. Sanctus took her soul from the great demon and Emma was reborn as the spirit protector of the forest. Followers of Saint Emma have no need for material possessions (ie wealth). Duties:Protect the forest from ravagers.

Then I twigged it was some kind of daft RPG thing. Bugger. Further research reveals St Emma was an 11th century woman who was good to the poor folk of Bremen. Yawn.

At primary school when our teacher got bored of reading bible stories eg Daniel in the lions' den etc., she read us stories about saints instead. Then we got to act out the story and whoever's birthday was nearest and was the correct gender got to be the saint. I suppose we must've missed out the more gruesome deaths.

What the f*ck?! What is this crazy website?

"If a woman is suffering greatly as a result of her husband's infidelity, she can request the aid of Saint Elisabeth by tying a pink ribbon, approximately a meter long around the ring finger of her left hand. The ribbon will bear the name of the petitioner and the name of her husband, written one after the other continuously. One must dip the finger in bleach, untie the ribbon and bury it in a pot with white flowers. The following prayer requests Saint Elisabeth's intercession in the matter...."

Am I the only one that thinks this kbizarre?

Plinky (Plinky), Friday, 1 November 2002 15:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

Bizarre indeed. I was christened on St. Mark's Day, 25th April 1971.

What do I know about St Mark, well, over to Sheila E I suppose:

The Belle of St. Mark

The belle of St. Mark was a fair but a passionate creature
ebony hair and eyes of deep blue-green
The belle of St. Mark wore clothes that belonged to his father
even though he was only a mere seventeen

Chorus:

I´m in love
I´m in love
I´m in love
with the belle of St. Mark.
It tears me apart whenever I hear him cry.
I´m in love
I´m in love
I´m in love
with the belle of St. Mark
And if he doesn´t love me I think I´ll probably die.

You can tell from expressions that he makes public
that he suffers from a badly broken heart.
He smiles as he feeds the afternoon pigeons
but he cries as he walks the night streets of St. Mark

Chorus

Bridge:
The belle of St. Mark he don´t talk to strangers
He´s so mysterious
His erotic persuasion provokes me like no other man
The fire I have for him is undoubtably serious
(spoken):
I must make him see that he needs love to forget
And if anyone can help him, I can
I can help.
I can help you.

His Paris hair blows in the warm Parisian air
It blows whenever his Paris hair is there
The woman who hurt him surely must have trouble sleeping
´cause the belle of St. Mark is a beauty extraordinaire

chorus...fade

If we're posting song lyrics:

"All Saint's Day" - Severed Heads

All very well for saints to have their day
To fly away to prey another day
Down here I'd rather face the fire
than aspire for the heavenly choir
'Cause I've got my faith put in its place
Swept out the light beyond a trace
'Cause I took a look in their book
and there's nothing about this life of mine

For I am willing to believe
Wishing to be strong, fighting on your side
For I am willing to believe
Swimming in your tide, crying your tears
