HILDA on Netflix deserves its own thread

It's a kid's cartoon, but it's delightful and charming. The story starts rather slowly and it only gets really funny once some key characters are introduced, but when the show hits its stride, it made me want to hug it.

The animation and character design are lovely (I don't know why but I find Hilda's beret to be an exquisite touch), and the story is surprisingly intricate for a kid's show -- things mentioned in the periphery in one episode pay off several episodes later. (As an aside, you know you've reached peak serial narratives when something aimed at 9-year-olds has multi-episode arcs.)

Also the theme song is by Grimes (?!).

Can't wait for the next season!

Woodman is basically my role model

This was really great! One thing I don't think I mentioned on the netflix thread is that I really liked the approach to voice casting and the range of accents

I'm a few eps in. Possibly because of the long time gap, the feel of it is a little different than I recall, but I haven't quite put my finger on what's changed (there do seem to be a sudden proliferation of indie-folk songs—I'm not wild about it but they aren't ruinous).

In a sign of how much I've lost interest in Grimes, I now skip the intro.

Really recommend the graphic novels the show is based on - great read for parents and kids.

I am enjoying s2 quite a bit more than S1. Feels quite consciously Buffyish with the whole scooby gang and witchy librarian.

I was a little iffy on the comics because I didn't like the way Hilda's nose is drawn in the early volumes lol, but I ought to give them a shot.

I think the first couple are good at building the world up and I think Pearson wraps up the series well with the last two. I find the ending particularly sweet.

OMG at episode 7 with the scene soundtracked to Stereolab! Wish it could've gone on longer/forever.

I thought S2 was, somewhat disappointingly, more gung-ho, action-packed, high stakes and with more extreme peril than S1, and fewer emotional moments or life lessons. Then I saw E9, The Deerfox, and I am destroyed.
