— everyone is pretty
— boneitis is a thing apparently
— the ship's alexa is a pretty emo robot (male, torn)
— there is a lady who angrily swears A LOT
— it's "the core" in space
— let's watch and decide

I've watched one episode. It made me want to do crunches.

Watched ep1. I dunno about this

Some things about this are good, other things are v bad. I do kind of appreciate how shamelessly they hit various canonical sf tropes (Trek, Alien, Battlestar... uh Arrival).

Οὖτις, Sunday, 4 August 2019 14:23 (four years ago) link

it is indeed very shameless in this and other ways and this is a thing i quite like

mark s, Sunday, 4 August 2019 14:38 (four years ago) link

the earth-based storyline finally woke up

(other films and stories it's stealing from: starship troopers *and* solaris!)

mark s, Sunday, 4 August 2019 19:13 (four years ago) link

Haha yes to both of those

I’m on ep4 and the earth shit is so bad

"I cracked the code by turning my screen sideways!" was p lolzy

I gave up part of the way through episode 4 or 5 and skipped to the last episode - still bad, and from what I could tell I didn't actually miss anything important in those 5-6 episodes.

This is the show I put on when I want to take a nap on the sofa.

Yerac, Monday, 5 August 2019 16:33 (four years ago) link

it's enjoyably bad

My spouse has been watching it. I get the 5 word recap at the end when I wake up.

Yerac, Monday, 5 August 2019 16:41 (four years ago) link

I wake up every so often to say "that little girl is so annoying."

Fiona's boyfriend is doomed to seeming somewhat sleazy no matter what role he plays post-Shameless

pressure-creaking borrowed from "voyage to the bottom of the sea"

lol @ space candy-rave sequence

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 7 August 2019 16:20 (four years ago) link

roflz @ the "twists" in the last couple eps - looks like we'll get a little "V" action with the earth plotline

Οὖτις, Thursday, 8 August 2019 14:49 (four years ago) link

well the earth plotline can't really get worse so hurrah i guess

mark s, Thursday, 8 August 2019 14:52 (four years ago) link

I was briefly interested in the earth plotline when they had that "first contact" sort of sequence. Honestly I was wondering if they were going to go 2001 or Solaris with that and they kinda did the latter I guess. Absolutely hate all of the cast in the earth plotline though, they are all terrible.

five months pass...

GF has been watching this the last several days (and I have been able to read a fairly dense book on the couch next to her while also keeping up with basically everything happening onscreen. Shakey's review otm:

Some things about this are good, other things are v bad. […]

My going theory is that they quickly added a bunch of swears after the CW declined to pick up the show. I appreciate, if nothing else, their willingness to ruthlessly dispatch their chiseled mid-20s castmembers only to pull a replacement (and they even just straight-up call them replacements) out of cold storage five minutes later.

Is this camp? I think it might be camp.

haha watching Ad Astra last night made me think of this (which I had totally forgotten about)

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 14 January 2020 16:29 (four years ago) link

Yeah, I figured I should get my thoughts down as quickly as possible since it's been like twelve hours since I last watched it and I don't expect it to linger in my memory much beyond that.

I think it qualifies as camp, would probably watch a second season

Well then, my friend, you are in luck: https://deadline.com/2019/10/another-life-renewed-season-2-netflix-katee-sackhoff-1202771687/

Yeah, can't believe they renewed this but not Tuca & Bertie, The OA, Daybreak etc
