The use of the music is very striking, it doubles down / gets almost comically louder in scenes where you'd expect it to ease off

kg was great, i wouldve loved to see how kobe wouldve been ~ script wouldve had to change quite a bit

I thought this was much better than their last one, and just as much in thrall to the gritty neo-noir aesthetic of Chinese Bookie/Eddie Coyle - which is a good not bad thing imo.

saw this at 11pm in an empty theater on xmas night, great way to blow off holiday stress.

Didnt like this as much as Good Time just bc GT felt like a bolt from the blue, but thought it was great. Only thing I didnt like was the music, which I thought was extremely bad & ridiculous in all the wrong ways, and actually ruined what should have been a couple of the strongest scenes imo. KGs performance was legit good & much better than I was expecting.

Saw this same day as Star Wars ; both excruciating but this had more cathartic ending and more deft use of CG. Music felt like 70s after-school special scolding, which I guess this was?

Kevin Garnett’s force awakening was really done much better in this movie.

Also, love that Eric Bogosian has this role and the completely different Bernie Sanders-type role in Succession in the same year. Thought we had lost him to Law & Order.

Much better than Good Time because it's a more fully realized film. I rewatched it today, and definitely holds up.

one of my best friends watched it and kept texting me during it, stuff like "he's already crazy and we're only 40% into the movie!"

The manic pace of the first act is really something, it actually kind of slows down slightly after that.

The moment when he first shows the gem to KG really moved me this time.

I could happily watch this a couple times a year for....a while

It def occurs to me that I want to watch this again, less so with Good Time

Kind of hard to say, given that I've never seen the 90s remake of Night in the City (but I am aware of its reputation), this movie feels like the proper way to update that film. I almost didn't watch this--haven't seen their previous film (but will now), and the Sandler-in-a-real-movie hook doesn't interest me--so I'm surprised and delighted at how much I enjoyed this.

That first sentence is missing a conjunction somewhere, but hopefully you know what I mean.

Pedro Pascal, who is nice to look at and says the right things on social media, is like Glen Powell in that the powers-that-be really want to make a star out of him.

I've asked students several times in the last four years whether stars as such mean anything. The answer: not a lot. The ephemerality of consumption via streaming -- start a movie, turn it off when bored, start another -- and the collapse of the promo practices on which we grew up (talk shows, magazine covers) means that they recognize few personalities.

That said, Zendaya and Tim Chalamet are huge with them.
