If a direct asteroid strike happened on earth between now and 2039 the internet would not survive. Otherwise, it'll limp along in some form. The earth itself has already survived everything the universe could throw at it for maybe five or six billion years. It'll be there in 2040. Humans'll be there, too. They might be rather bitter and unhappy, but still fucking.
