any squad that has space for that flopping idiot ian walker in it is not going deep into any tournament

dutch played rings around us in the playoffs and tbh i cant see them being too troubled by england neither

I'm not suggesting Denmark can win the whole thing again but they're nailed on to get out of that group given that there will never be a good Portuguese forward and who the fuck knows anything about Croatia?

croatia took a lot of that yugoslavian underage world champions team and theyve got boban if nothing else

Got to feel sorry for the Czechs in that group. Not sure they should even bother turning up tbh. Get a bloody haircut at least lads.

what do we make of the scotland squad?

Making McAllister captain is not a good idea.

Barry Davies says that Euro 96 was the best soccer tournament he's even been involved in.

Anyone recall if there was a review of Euro 96 shown at the end of that year? Not seeing anything on YT as prominent as the Davies-introduced-and-narrated masterpiece that is the BBC's World Cup 94 review but I'm sure there was an attempt at an equivalent at the time.

Euro 96 was a poor tournament, both in quality of football and organisationally. Lol Barry Davies

Just imagining some teenage kid for whom euro 96 has this mythical aura of sepia English greatness, watching that England v Switzerland shitfest last night.

It's the last time Scotland were any good, since McAllister aimed that penalty kick at David Seaman's arse it's been downhill - at a dizzying pace. Never forgiven that cunt, McAllister for that, though I already hated him before that, he was an Orange bastard and was shite for Scotland.

Frank Bough: I Took Drugs with Vice Girls (Tom D.), Tuesday, 12 May 2020 13:22 (three years ago) link

England were good for... 35min total? Dismal vs the Swiss, lucky vs the Scots, fortunate to be ahead at h/t vs the Dutch, played off the pitch by the Spanish (two goals disallowed), somewhat rose to the occasion vs the Germans (first half + ET). The tabloid press coverage was so grotesque I wanted England to lose. Edberg went out of Wimbledon in the second round same day as the Euro semi, and I was more upset about that tbh. (Becker snapped his wrist vs Godwin a couple of days later so I got over it).

Not a great tournament, really. Suker was good, and there was that frantic Russia-Czech 3-3 at Anfield.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 12 May 2020 16:45 (three years ago) link

And don't get me started on McAllister. Scored for Leicester at Goodison as a 20yo (a defeat which effectively cost us the title); came back 16 years later and...

Watching the England v. Germany semi, that was not a very strong German team.

Correction, still a good team but not a top notch German side, Klinsmann suspended or injured?

Injured iirc
