my earliest memory of Robert Maxwell was when some crappy book of his was being serialised in his main tabloid in the early 80's and there was an advert on tv (remember when tabloids used to advertise on tv) that described some brilliant quixotic character that escaped the nazis and so on.

He does have a pretty heroic life story up to the mid 1950s or so, do have to wonder how much of it is spin of course.
