No, you're right.

Sourdough sparks the most joy imo.

imago, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 21:41 (three years ago) link

What if I like rye toast? Am I forced to vote for only one?

Sourdough ahead of soda

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 22:03 (three years ago) link

Sourdough, except almost all of these can be sourdough or non-sourdough varieties

change display name (Jordan), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 22:04 (three years ago) link

Woah we got a troublebaker here huh

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 22:05 (three years ago) link

sourdough easily, but then toast is an option? toasting makes any bread better, so has to be toast.

No amnesty for Tiger Bread?

Mark G, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 22:09 (three years ago) link

Yeah, the toast thing is confounding.. that's like saying "Buttered" or "Sandwich"

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 22:11 (three years ago) link

Unfortunately, 'Toast' was a given Type of bread on the Wikipedia Types Of Bread page

imago, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 22:14 (three years ago) link

maybe it should be ejected?

I'll Stan for the Aldi one.

Mark G, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 23:12 (three years ago) link

Aldi sourdough is fairly decent too, though Lidl's is better.

Sourdough rye is not an option. Should I vote sourdough or rye? Which one is a more essential part of my favorite bread?

Lily Dale, Thursday, 21 January 2021 02:03 (three years ago) link

Would prefer the poll starter (see what I did there) have some basic knowledge of the subject before running the poll.

Might as well start a Beatles thread and just throw in Gerry and the Pacemakers, Dave Clark 5, etc. without realizing.

I’ve made pancakes, cornbread, flatbread, fruit bread, waffles, and biscuits, but learning to bake sourdough bread has been a most rewarding experience for me

Tiger bread always promises much more than it can deliver

noooooo

For the last several months I've been obsessed with this one supermarket tiger bread that's super thick, like 2 cm per slice, and it toasts up to the most beautiful crispness, with the most delicately fluffy interior, and it's like munching on a cloud from heaven. Delicious with a slab of butter. It's surely processed to shit because also it lasts ages before going mouldy but that's bonus points imo, my freezer is too tiny to store loaves

salsa shark, Friday, 5 February 2021 15:20 (three years ago) link

Wonder why I've never seen or heard of Tiger bread - I would definitely try it. Apparently it's sold in the San Francisco area as "Dutch Crunch," which I've never heard of either. Is it called something else on the East coast?

I eat far more wheat bread than these other options, but have to vote for rye bc when rye is dark and high quality (iow not the weak adulterated kind you get at Katz's Deli or most groceries) it's something special.

Josefa, Friday, 5 February 2021 15:36 (three years ago) link

"leavened flatbread with toppings" getting v close to pizza-ish territory that i would call focaccia

voting rye, as Josefa described.

scampos sacra fames (outdoor_miner), Friday, 5 February 2021 16:24 (three years ago) link

Dutch Crunch is just a type of sandwich roll ? When I was a marketing intern in my early 20s, and part of my job entailed going to the deli around the corner and grabbing lunch for the salespeople, one of them would always have a sandwich on a dutch crunch roll. It doesn't differ much from a standard white roll tbh.

sarahell, Friday, 5 February 2021 19:37 (three years ago) link

So apparently the rice part of Tiger Bread/Dutch Crunch is just on the exterior and the rest is regular white flour? Well that's kind of disappointing.

I'd rather have a banh mi baguette that has rice flour all mixed in, which for this poll I guess would fall under "rice bread."

Fitting results for a poll that conflated shape, composition, process, and things that are not even bread.
