Sarah Lawrence sex-trafficking case

The original CNN story on this was posted last year:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/11/us/sarah-lawrence-college-sex-trafficking/index.html

Today, there was an update that saying one of the formerly-alleged victims has been charged as a co-conspirator:

https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/02/us/sarah-lawrence-trafficking-case-isabella-pollok/index.html

A couple of things that went through my head as I read about this:

1. What?
2. They included the former victim's name in the story URL for the update but the original story's URL doesn't contain the name of the guy accused of doing this. 🤔
3. He moved into on-campus housing with his daughter and her roommates during their sophomore year in late 2010 and began "therapy" sessions with some roommates in which he presented himself as a father figure who could solve their psychological problems, the indictment states. WHAT

This is a catastrophic failure on the part of the university; I don't see how any functioning institution allows this to happen within its own dorms/apartments, particularly given that dude MOVED IN WITH HIS DAUGHTER like what? How the hell did that happen? Even if you are looking to make an accommodation for some extenuating circumstance for a student so that concerns about their family's situation doesn't derail their academic career, how are you going to allow a parent in a dorm room with other roommates purely from the standpoint of liability? Not that this is the case here because dude had his own apartment in Manhattan that he then transferred these women to over the summer; I just can't fathom how no one said "who is this guy in his late-50s living with these women in one of the campus apartments", like whiteness is an invisibility cloak or something.

There was a great story in the New Yorker about this case in early 2020:

New York, not New Yorker, sorry, force of habit.

I would guess that people in authority didn't know he was living there, as opposed to just visiting his daughter on a regular basis. I would also guess that campus staff that "knew" he was living there probably had no authority and were trained not to assert themselves. idk actually

Campus staff and resident tutors challenged people all the time when I was in school, or maybe they just challenged the Black people, because I was asked to produce an ID every single time I tried to go into another dorm while I was a student.

Uh, I went to the same school and I never got challenged. Gee why would Black students want to live together in the Quad, let's end that via randomization cuz segregation is bad.

I was going to post a quote from that Cut article but it's just wall-to-wall madness.

I got a big green Sarah Lawrence hoodie last year, even though I have no affiliation with the school, because I thought it was funny. Guess I'd fell too self-conscious wearing it now
