Common long-term symptoms include fatigue; respiratory problems; “brain fog”; cardiac, renal and gastrointestinal issues; and loss of smell and taste. Surprising manifestations continue to emerge, such as the recent realization that infection may precipitate diabetes.

I wonder if the diabetes thing is more correlation than causation
A good friend of mine has a teenaged son who, after a relatively mild case, thinks everything smells like sewage.

my wife's best friend spent about a month post-covid (she's vaccinated) in what amounted to some kind of semi-catatonic state.

a bit communicative but simply not really "there" like a completely muffled version of herself apparently. like she's had a brain injury.
