That's true, if we narrowly define coffee maker, I don't really need that either since I typically go French press. It was more the process of elimination based on the other options.

for the purposes of this exercise, i'm defining coffee maker as an machine that makes coffee.
it's meant to be a poll about prioritizing expediency of creature comforts. though i'm open to different interpretations!

bidet - never had one, so can live just fine without an amenity I don't use anyway
coffee maker - see above, use French Press daily
microwave - I use this several times a week, but ours died during the early part of the pandemic and we had to wait some time for a new one, wasn't as hard to live without as I might have imagined
video game console - speaking for myself, I only have time to play about once a month anyway, wouldn't kill me to not have one; my son might feel differently about his Switch though

what would you say is your significantly indispensable modernity device?

I would probably say, regrettably, my smartphone, as I imagine most might say.

microwave is probably more useful, but I can't let my coffee maker go

There are other ways to get all the benefits of each, so I can imagine life without any of them. Or all of them.

For convenience I would say the coffee maker would be hardest to do without. Because yes, there are other ways to make and consume coffee, but they're definitely inconvenient workarounds, comparatively speaking.

I've never used a bidet or video game console but even if I did, I know that showers exist, as do computer and phone games.

My only regular uses for the microwave are things like boiling water or melting butter and cheese, all of which are decently easy to do with a conventional stove.

microwave - don't have one, have had them in the past and it's changed my eating habits a little to not have one anymore but not a big deal
video game console - i have a bunch of these now that i live alone and have my own tv/living room, but got by fine with just a midrange PC and lower spec games for many years and could do it again if i had to. still the easy pick of these

-Don't own a bidet despite all the pro-bidet sentiment these days
-Didn't own a microwave for years, now we have one in the basement for small tasks like thawing frozen bagels before toasting, and warming bakery items
-Not considering an Aeropress or Chemex a machine, and I could do without the drip coffee maker if necessary

-Going video game console, since it's become the most reliable way to completely distract/absorb my brain for (ideally) short periods of time

come on just about everyone has a standing bidet in the bathroom - they just don't know it yet! Never had a coffee maker or a microwave oven and as for the PS4 nobody uses it. But that might change now I've recently moved it to my desk after discovering I can plug it into my pc monitor, although I have a crap game collection because I went for the games that I thought the kid would like and got it all badly wrong.

I hate the whole concept of microwave ovens, but now they've invented something even more pointless and probably with a teflon cooking surface - the air cooker. I mean why? Just a completely unnecessary product design solution for a completely non-existent question that no fucker ever asked.

i'm team bidet btw, made the transition during covid and am angry it took me so long to understand the benefits. and i say this as a video game nerd! (non-coffee drinker, losing a microwave would be a serious detriment in my life)

Don't have a bidet and I drink instant coffee. I do use the microwave a fuck of a lot but I only got one in the last 5 years and managed fine without it before, and tbh getting rid of it would probably make me healthier in relying less on shit ready meals. I could live without a console (as long as I could still play games on my laptop, anyway) but it's easily my top priority to keep out of the four options.

I have none of those things except a smallish Bialetti moka pot which I use from time to time to make cafe americano

the microwave is by far the most essential of these to me, I use it every day to reheat leftovers. I could do without a coffee maker. the others are just affectations

listen. i used to love video games but now i watch longplays (without commentary) of games that i wish i had played instead and it’s about as satisfying

as someone who has suffered from agonising haemorrhoids in the past. My arsehole get's the Sistine Chapel frescoes treatment in my "bidet" oh yes!
