ITT we ask how many episodes of a TV show we should watch before we nope out

I'll get us started:

The Americans
The Leftovers

If the Leftovers pilot doesn't suck you in, you could bail — it is what it is from the beginning. (That said, Season Two changes location and introduces a mess of new characters, so if you didn't like the series premiere, you could try the Season Two premiere and maybe go from there if it works better for you.)

It's weird (or maybe not?) how many people seem to be watching/rewatching/contemplating whether to watch The Americans right now. I'm one. I'd say push through until early in the second season? If it's not doing it for you at that point, it's probably never gonna do it for you.

Derry Girls?

Anyone get into Glitch? (latest Korean drama-via-Netflix)

Derry Girls starts great and then maybe peters out a bit so if you don’t like the pilot, that’s your lot

yeah it was pretty much love at first sight for me, if you're not onboard after 2-3 eps give up

how about Succession? we watched the first 2 episodes, they both felt really long, and I didn't really like any of the characters. my wife fell asleep 20 minutes into both

I didn't like it at first and it wasn't until the first few of s2 I got hooked in. This doesn't have much to do with the consistency of the show tho tbh.

I tried to watch the first episode of S1 of White Lotus on an airplane. I had to stop when the two women with vocal fry introduce all the characters interminably and their voices basically merged with the background hum of the Boeing no matter how I tried to turn it up.

I do think that if you want to like characters Succession is not the show for you

I don’t think Succession fully clicked with me until episode 4

oh I'm used to watching shows where everyone is a bad person but idk they're more annoying than entertaining outside of maybe Kieran Culkin's character. maybe I'll keep watching though cuz the dude from Sledge Hammer is in it

you learn to love all the succession characters, is the thing
