We’ve got Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson, CCH Pounder, and as of episode 2 at least 10 yards of plot rope with which to hang themselves

so the obvious thing, from minute one practically. which was revealed in e2 is the son's mystery lover being bardem's character. i guess for any viewer it's massively obvious but weird it isn't for the characters. also i could be wrong but is it gonna turn out that the son is Bardem's son with the wife?

speculation/possible spoilers in that post
It’s trashy & pulpy & like a more over the top Presumed Innocent (if you dug that recent popcorn Apple remake)
I feel like it’s tap dancing waaaay to hard & doing WAY too much to try to temper the fact that they’ve got TEN EPISODES to fill out
But it feels quite soap opera in its plotting too - the red string diagram is already working overtime so it could be fun to see how they land this trash plane
It’s already clear that whatever they’ve got planned storywise for both kids & Casy is going to be A LOT

xpost LG I think the daughter is that offspring

Yeah perhaps that's it. Something like that is definitely coming for sure.
I find it funny with stuff like this how it gets these thrilled 5/5 reviews in somewhere like the Guardian and while it isn't really, really bad, the total absence of even mild cynicism in some reviews is notable.
Like ten mins in it's clear this is fairly trashy, funny, but not in a really intentional or neat way. I think the same reviewer gave DTF St Louis a three or something, just very weird.
I prob will keep watching it nonetheless tho for what it is. It has some good moments.

Also I think we should allow spoilers? I feel like this show is already crazy enough I think it’s easier to just say everything without tags

xpost yeah I saw a bunch of giddy 5 star reviews & I was like what the fuck show did you watch and how low is your bar for “great”
The Ringer’s Prestige TV show has a good recap of the first 2 eps

Started last night and it’s alright, it’s def leagues better written than that Scarpetta show on Amazon with Nicole Kidman which has the worst dialogue of anything I’ve seen in years. Not fully convinced by amy Adam’s accent here .

It felt like Amy Adam was cosplaying Connie Britton & I just want Connie Britton in this role so bad now
― werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 8 June 2026 01:37 (three weeks ago)
And yeah Scarpetta was a mess.
That Guardian TV reviewer is a mess, and even harder to get a draw on than Peter Bradshaw.

i guess there are a few? but assuming we mean the same person i honestly am close enough to 'if they say it's good it's probably bad' and vice versa.
― LocalGarda, Monday, 8 June 2026 12:03 (three weeks ago)
Yeah. She's five-starred quite a few things that are outright awful, like the Emma Thompson Mick Herron thing.
I guess I'll watch this but I really hated Bardem in Skyfall and I worry this is more of the same.

I would love it if Max Cady turned out to be completely innocent of everything, but paranoia and past misdeeds just tears the family apart in the end. That would be the darkest route.

Have watched the first two now and onboard for the trashy fun although it's going to get old very soon if every episode they keep rushing outside to investigate a noise at night, leaving the doors wide open behind them for all and sundry to sneak inAnd that jail gym fight at the start of episode 2 was pretty hardcore levels of violence for a tv show
― groovypanda, Saturday, 13 June 2026 12:17 (two weeks ago)
I know it’s only ep 4 but I’m really getting strong “actually Max Cady is a red herring” vibes from this dumb show and if that is where we end up in the finale I’ll be annoyed
Also I keep thinking how much worse this show would be without the throwback suspenseful score. So many scenes are just so DUMB

Anna is the dumbest lawyer in the history of television
The edit where they cut to fruit/fork after nipple piercing was hilariously terrible
I think I am enjoying this even though I hate it
― werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 19 June 2026 21:43 (one week ago)
Still having fun; show still stupid af
Amy Adams & Patrick Wilson’s characters are at this point the worst parents in television history AND too dumb to live
I think my Neveah theory that she’s maybe the true antagonist is still bearing hella crazy fruit; Cady doing some pretty weirdo shit too (the kiss w Juliette Lewis was BONKERS)
New theory: I think she’s somehow possessing Zack w voodoo magic or Santeria or possum skulls or whatever? Huge if true!
