..this is a new record. For heaven's sake, WHEN WILL IT STOP? I can't hear a thing. (I know, this should be on ILM)

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 12 December 2002 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 12 December 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw Pretty Girls Make Graves. So loud. I feel old. What did you say?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 12 December 2002 13:46 (twenty-three years ago)

How were they?

My dad has tinitus or whatever it's called - constant never-ending ringing in his ears for the rest of his life. But he got it from riding a tractor without wearing ear protection. So I figure if I end up that way, at least it will be because I was enjoying some music.

One time I tried to put in earplugs at a gig I was at. I wore them through two bands and did fine. But when it was time for me to play, I took them out worrying I wouldn't be able to hear what was going on. Everything was so loud and such a shock to my previously ear-plugged ears that I couldn't hear anything anyway and my ears rang for a few days afterwards.

My ears ring all the time. It doesn't irritate me, but I sometimes find it hard to hear people talking when there's background noise, eg. in a busy pub. I blame standing too close to the speakers at too many gigs (I've never been a walkman person).

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 12 December 2002 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

My ears don't ring much these days, as I've only been to two shows this year. I've had it go on for a few days in the past, and made my ears ring when recording on a 4-track.

(Should be on ILM alert)

Sarah-actually I was a bit disappointed. Good Health is one of my favourite albums this year, but the sound was really bad. The front row was also full of their friends, and they seemed sometimes to be playing to them instead of everyone else. A for effort, though. Was also let down a bit by Your Enemies Friends in support, but I'm still glad I went.

(Now the ILE bit)

Did I mention it was LOUD? My ears ring a lot, AND I live inside my headphones a lot of the time. I am always hearing doorbells and telephones that aren't really there.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 12 December 2002 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

That used to happen to me quite a lot. You'll get deaf when you're older.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 12 December 2002 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks N,

Next you'll tell me I'll go blind from staring at ILX and doing data entry all day...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 12 December 2002 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Only if you're wanking at the same time

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 12 December 2002 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

"Data entry" .... :)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 12 December 2002 14:44 (twenty-three years ago)

i have a constant ringing in my ears from house music. is this scientifically proven to be poimanent?

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 12 December 2002 15:06 (twenty-three years ago)

The ringing might go away, but you have damaged your ears permanently and will be prone to hearing loss as you get older.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 12 December 2002 15:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I think techno music (mixed with appropriate drugs) is worst for the ears. One time at this local battle of the djs at school, I saw this really messed up guy stick his head inside a really fuckin' loud speaker as he was dancing around. He left it there for quite some time.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 12 December 2002 15:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Kitchens of Distinction, bless their hearts, were the band that gave me my own low-level tinnitus problem. Now let's see Interpol do that for something (er, if you will ;-)).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 December 2002 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

The ringing might go away

yay!

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 12 December 2002 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

DEAF COMES TO ALL OF US

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 12 December 2002 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I was at a gig with my oldest friend, long ago (1977 or '78!), and in between songs in the support act (Satan's Rats, I believe) he sat IN the biggest speaker cabinet. He says that it started hurting straight away, but he thought he'd look uncool if he jumped out immediately, so he stayed in there for one whole song. He says that he didn't recover his hearing properly for three or four days.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 12 December 2002 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

my ears rung for TWO DAYS STRAIGHT after sleater-kinney. totally worth standing right in front of the speaker for, but next time i will bring earplugs, methinks.

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 12 December 2002 23:06 (twenty-three years ago)

EARPLUGS AND A ZIMMER FRAME!!!

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 12 December 2002 23:09 (twenty-three years ago)

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 12 December 2002 23:19 (twenty-three years ago)
