There is nearly a whole week of Church of Me archives which have disappeared and Blogger are refusing to republish them. I have just wasted half an hour trying to do this.

No doubt this is all part of their endless fucking obsession with "redesigning," i.e. if it ain't broke, break it, i.e. let's psychologically force everyone on to paying for Blogger Plus where I expect none of these problems ever occurs.

The posts missing are those for 18-21 November. Can anyone persuade me not to transfer the whole fucking lot to Pitas or similar?

Actually I have now tried Pitas and don't think I'll bother. It won't even let me do something as elementary as give my blog a name.

God, why does this business have to be so fucking complicated? I just want a system that is simple to understand and does what I want quickly and efficiently. Is that too much to ask?

radio free narnia is a pitas blog, so i've emailed mark s to see if he can help at all. like i say, i've typed in a new name and description, but it's not coming up on the page itself - it just says "my pitas page."

I think this November archives problem will hopefully be solved in due course ! My published November Archives only goes upto November 18th, however I know they have not been lost in the system - as I can increase the number of days posts on the main blog page (as a temporary solution)

Keep a look out on status.blogger.com hopefully a solution will come soon.

I think there is still an early week of I Hate Music which is gone forever, still we reuse the same gags all the time anyway so it doesn't matter much.

I find pitas really unweildy too, Marcello.

The best thing to do is use Blogger but not Blogspot. I have all of NYLPM on my server space so if Blogger did go mad and wipe bits (and for all I know it has) the archived stuff is already published there. Then create your own archives index rather than relying on Blogger. It's time consuming but worth it in the long run. It also means investing in webspace but you wont be paying much if anything more than you would be for Blogger Pro and there is tons more you can do with it.

three months pass...

I wish those muppets at Google-owned Blogger would get there act together:

at the moment the current template is not updating since last evening ! [I must have tried at least 10 times trying to update] [good job I save my template changes via word first!]

and they still have not solved the long term problem with saving archive templates to reflect current template changes for all the months, and still the botched f-up of late November 2002 posts not showing up.

...and there is Zilch customer support apart from the lame communications on status.blogger.com

get it sorted ! one mad Martian at the mo !

I haven't checked. But I've had loads of template problems with Blogger -- every few months I'll check my blog to find all the sidebar links have been wiped out, and when I check the template, all the link code is gone and there's just text.

tip to new bloggers: also copy and paste template changes from word/notepad /whatever to the blogger template. Therefore if there are any technical f-ups you always have the most update version to fall back on, plus i find it easier to make changes in word from a usability standpoint.

I am going FUCKING INSANE

Now notice:
1) the lack of the archives on the sidebar
2) the error message every time you try to click on a permalink
3) the ugly font in the header pic (not relevant, but still.)

I think the problem is that blogger is trying to point to an /archive/ directory that DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE, but no matter where I look in the blogger (oh, wait, I'm sorry, blogger PRO) editing page I can't find any option to point these links to the proper [whatever date]_hipsterdetritus_archive.html files in the ROOT DIRECTORY AND NOT THE BLOODY /ARCHIVE/ FOLDER. I suppose I've sort of brought this on myself, trying to change from "weekly" to "monthly" and THEN to "daily" updates, but I don't think that's entirely the cause of the problem here.

some of my friends who used blogger have switched to typepad the past week or two.

I used to use Movable Type (which was fantastic) but when I switched servers/domains I couldn't get it installed again. I might do the free month's trial of typepad to see if I like it. I"m very reluctant to use anything that doesn't sit (program and files) on my own server though.

I actually dont mind the new interface either - the old one's seperation of post and publish annoyed me, though I'd imagine updating a large site might be a pain (over dialup especially). I've noticed a wacky problem whereby if you leave the publish progress page in the tab, it will sit looping round for no reason... switching away from the tab allows it to go to the publish successful page... WTF?

yes i got spam in my comments too. a bit miffed seeing as it was the first time I'd EVER got a comment on my gta blog. also a bit upset as the comment started off telling me i needed a 'life' so i thought it was genuine at first.
