Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 13:30 (twenty-three years ago)

naaah ... the lineup just didn't do anything for me this time (yes, i know it's not just about the lineup), and i probably won't have time to go anyway. are PE still worth seeing, does anyone know?

rener (rener), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 13:34 (twenty-three years ago)

my gf told me that PE have confirmed a couple of days ago. i almost filled my pants. thanks for reminding me, must order tix...

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 13:37 (twenty-three years ago)

WORTH SEEING?

Line Up: Chuck D, Flavour Flav, Professor Griff, Lord Aswod and the S1W's.

As the website puts it, just think how mad it'll be to see Flav walking round Pontins in Camber Sands.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 13:39 (twenty-three years ago)

YEAH! Everyone in Camber gonna know what tiiiime it is.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 13:40 (twenty-three years ago)

The line-up at this event has always been, in many ways, bad. But never quite this outrageously, ostentatiously bad.

the pinefox, Tuesday, 17 December 2002 13:42 (twenty-three years ago)

That was what I wanted to see too. Public Enemy playing crazy golf, hanging out on chalet steps, playing dance dance revolution in the arcade.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 13:43 (twenty-three years ago)

i think Flav would be more a HOUSE OF THE DEAD type. or that one where you shoot the cups and they explode. bang!

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

S1Ws on DDR!

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

with uzis.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

mmm, yes but will they be any good *on stage*? or are they all past it now?

it would be great to see flavor flav in mini-vegas. or eating jellied eels.

rener (rener), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 13:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I liked Robin's post on the ILM thread.

"Rye and Winchelsea, consider yourself ... WARNED"

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 13:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Rener: no - they won't.

the pinefox, Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:15 (twenty-three years ago)

aside from PE, The Fall, and the Magic Band all performances at this festival will be by thirty something terminally boring people typing essays on their laptops. Not my idea of a fun thing to watch.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

The Fall - *again*?? For goodness' sake.

the pinefox, Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

The Fall play every year. Like Godspeed.

Meanhwhile, isn't it a bit rockist the way everyone is going on about how great it will be to see the frankly long past it Public Enemy?

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:26 (twenty-three years ago)

It was the totally out-of-context thing that appealed to me.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:27 (twenty-three years ago)

don't ask me, i'm ignorant. i just want to see them.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to go to this.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not, Vicar. I hate them, same as I've always done.

the pinefox, Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm thinking of going to the Emmaboda festival in the depths of Sweden.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Sweden is lovely. Swedish festivals are lovelier!

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

**The line-up at this event has always been, in many ways, bad. But never quite this outrageously, ostentatiously bad.**

Possibly the best post ever. Even though I don't agree.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:42 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah but i'm not that hip, so it's pontins for me again.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw PE on the Smokin' Grooves tour a few years ago, I think without Griff but with Chuck D., Flavor Flav, Terminator X, and the S1Ws. I was really excited but no one seemed to know who they were (all young kidz). It was alright, but lots of typical rap concert bullshit (not playing complete songs, just like one verse and the chorus and then mixing into the next 1/3 song) and there was a Flavor Flav solo set of a few songs where he played some new solo shit...who cares? I actually like the article, I think on Pitchfork, about going to see PE in DC and getting upset and belligerent. My main point: don't get yr hopes up too high.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm imagining Flavor Flav shouting out to the crowd "All the Wiggers in the House say 'Yeah!'".

I'm actually surprised Professor Griff is back in the fold... maybe everyone has forgotten his anti-Jew outbursts.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 17:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought he'd been back for ages.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

He has publicly apologized for the discarded policies of the past.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

"thirty something terminally boring people typing essays on their laptops"

DV how did you know I would be there?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 18:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I have little or no interest in any of the bands playing, but am going again out of fear.
