I'll be there for a few nights in midJanuary, need a good affordable place - preferably downtown.

I'm thinking of the Holiday Inn on Lafayatte. I'm not picky but I don't want to stay in a total dive.

any ideas would be really appreciated, I ought to book this soon.

sorry to use ILX for this, but I suppose it's the type of information a lot of people here will be able to use sooner or later.

The Gershwin is highly recommended on this thread, Fritz.

I shot my student film in the Gershwin! I still owe them a copy...

OK, great as the gershwin sounds, here are the cheapest I've found:

Milford Plaza
270 w. 45th street

Arlington
18 w. 25th st

Manhattan Broadway
273 w. broadway

any ideas on which would be best on the basis of location?

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 16:24 (twenty-three years ago)

The last one, on W Broadway.

Obviously Manhattan B'way! It's in SoHo and everything!

(Tracer, J D*chis just sent me invite to his anti-Xmas party on Monday. Wanna bum-rush?)

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

the year before at the whitehouse on bowery, that is cheap, like $25 for a single!

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 17:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I would shudder to think what a $25 hotel room would be like in Manhattan.

Very cheap, right across the street from CBGBs:

"I would shudder to think what a $25 hotel room would be like in Manhattan. "

It's a big room with partitions dividing the beds, with a community bathroom with showers. Most of the people are foreigners. If you intend to spend most of your time outside then this is good. Bring eyeplugs because the beds are squeaky.

its not that bad, except for thje first night when someone threatened to murder me..and they were VERY believable

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll post a pic of my room when i get back

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

the room in the hotel that is

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm traveling with the old lady and in-laws from japan so i don't think the whitehouse would fly.

I think it's down to the arlington, the super 8 in times square, the hotel belleclaire or the bedford hotel.

WHAT HAVE YOU GOT AGAINST THE GERSHWIN?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:46 (twenty-three years ago)

If you can spend $140 go the Gramercy Park Hotel at 21st and Lexington. You get a key to the park and you can walk to lots of nice places.

Not the Riverside Inn on 94th Street West. A bargain, we thought, but we ended up spending as little time there as possible. True, the staff were friendly enough, but it was basically a grubby doss house. And there was (how can I put this?) "stray" poo in the bathroom.

Tag, Wednesday, 18 December 2002 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

nothing against the gershwin. it sounds nice. other places are just cheaper.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 20:29 (twenty-three years ago)

But can you cope with "stray" poo? More importantly, can the Japanese in laws?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 19 December 2002 01:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't speak for the inlaws, but I am against stray poo on principle.
