Leslie Nielsen-c/d?

No, I'm not being ironic. The man has a unique talent. He can get away with lines that no-one on else can. I's almost supernatural. He may not be pulling up many trees now, but he already has a legacy to be proud of.

"That's an awfully big mustache"

N.B. I would post another thread for this, but read also "Bill Murray" for Leslie Nielsen. His performance in Rushmore is one of the greatest of all time, comic, dramatic, or otherwise.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 11:24 (twenty-three years ago)

leslie nielsen and bill murray are as classic as classic gets.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 11:44 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, i'm down with both.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 11:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Ok,let's ratchet this up a bit-Elaine from Seinfeld is also one of the great comic actresses of our era, and seeing her sex scene in Deconstructing Harry is strangely exciting.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 12:32 (twenty-three years ago)

that's where you lose me, nordic.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 12:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, c'mon Michael! Out of curiosity-was it the comedienne thing or the sex thing?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 12:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Julia Louis-Dreyfuss has always been hilarious. "Seinfeld" didn't always work, but one of the few moments of television where I've come close to wetting my pants from laughter is the "Elaine dances at her holiday party" episode. I'm choking back guffaws now, even as I type.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 12:53 (twenty-three years ago)

it was a bit of both but mainly the sex thing.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Leslie Nielsen is solid at the deadpan stuff, but I don't think he's in the Bill Murray league, who is one of those actors that I always want to see in anything - there is quite a lot of naff Nielsen.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 13:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Agreed, but isn't that part of his appeal? It is for me. He's good when he's great, he's EXCELLENT when he's bad, even that golf video-wow!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 13:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Neilson in a dramatic role in "Forbidden Planet", lest ye not forget.

Leslie Neilson...comedy...classic.
Bill Murray...comedy...classic classic.
Julia Louis-Dreyfuss...comedy...um, very funny, capable of pulling off 'the funny' with no more than a shove of Michael Richards, but hasn't thrown around nearly as many memorable hilarious performances as either of the dudes mentioned before, so, uh, semi-classic.

And I see your Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and raise you one Mike Myers. I don't know about you, but I don't remember him doing anything that I didn't find completely hilarious.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 18:39 (twenty-three years ago)

" He's good when he's great, he's EXCELLENT when he's bad", that's true actually. you know my favourite scene ever might be in "flying high" ("airplane" in the US) where he is a doctor & he does that conjuring trick pulling the eggs out of that woman's mouth (for no reason! it makes no sense at all) & the last egg he pulls out, he cracks it & a little bird flutters out & LN does this totally goofy surprise take...ok that doesn't sound that funny but it goddam fuckin totally is. (as funny as steve martin doing that coffee thing in "dead men don't wear plaid"! LN is only a million times more consistently funny than SM tho of course)

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 18:50 (twenty-three years ago)

search: Leslie Nielsen as bad guy in Surf Ninjas

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 18:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I disagree with the Julia Louis-Dreyfuss pick. Very rarely is she funny to me at least. The Xmas holiday party was an exception. Michael Richards and Jason Alexander made that show.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I like when elaine and george(?) were trying to find each other outside a ou bvi i think and the descriptions they gave to people, like,"lady,uh, face shaped like a frying pan" and "have you seen this big doofus?" No, that was about kramer.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:20 (twenty-three years ago)

chrikey i'd soooo forgotten about the
bit with the java in 'dead men...'
steve martin in his heyday -
none better, can't fault, etc.

seven years pass...

Twitter is buzzing that Canadian actor Leslie Nielsen, 84, has died in a Florida hospital due to complications of pneumonia.

look at it, pwn3d, made u look at my peen/vadge (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 29 November 2010 01:37 (fifteen years ago)

aw no. the third google result for leslie nielsen is "Leslie Nielsen Nude Pictures, Leslie Nielsen Naked Clips ... Leslie Nielsen is a 82 years old Actor from United States. ... Here are the 5 most rated projects Leslie Nielsen appeared in: Airplane! ... www.hunkymalestars.com/Profile_400.html". it's how he'd want to be remembered.

He was a terrible comic actor in whenever he tried to be one, but he had such a way with gibberish requiring deadpan cool.

"Lieutenant...I don't remember seeing you on my guest list."

"Nothing to be embarrassed about -- sometimes I go by my maiden name."

"Mister Magoo" is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. My mom and I saw it together at the theater and we went to ice cream afterwards and just took the biggest hot carl of rage all over that fucking movie. All we could talk about for like a week was how bad it was.

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 29 November 2010 04:36 (fifteen years ago)

Lt. Frank Drebin: [describing Jane; voice-over] I couldn't believe it was her. It was like a dream. But there she was, just as I remembered her. That delicately beautiful face. And a body that could melt a cheese sandwich from across the room. And breasts that seemed to say... "Hey! Look at these!" She was the kind of woman who made you want to drop to your knees and thank God you were a man! She reminded me of my mother, all right. No doubt about it.

Sometimes a celeb or actor dies and you think " well, he had a good run but it was his time to go" or whatever. But a world without Leslie Nielsen feels like it has significantly decreased in value.
