This being the Euston Hexagon. Starting at 3-ish at the Head Of Steam (piss before you get there) then moving on in a hexagonal fashion, ending hopefully about 8:30 in a pub with a jukebox. On the way we can examine many a nice ale or lager (including Leffe, Oranjeboom and Budvar), a pub what was in Dickens, some very nice tiles and a proper haunted pub.

29th December that is.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 December 2002 10:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Lordy! I shall be returning to Londinium on that date. I shall request more information nearer the time so that I can catch up whenever I've hauled my carcass home from Paddington.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 20 December 2002 10:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I might come along for the afternoon bit. But, if I don't it's coz of family get togethers!

Sounds like fun!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 20 December 2002 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

mmmm, proper hardcore bouzing! and I have work the next day!! *sobs*

chris (chris), Friday, 20 December 2002 10:37 (twenty-three years ago)

gareth (gareth), Friday, 20 December 2002 10:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Jeff W, Friday, 20 December 2002 10:57 (twenty-three years ago)

toby (tsg20), Friday, 20 December 2002 11:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll line those beer and water chasers up now.

The date is to try and hit them floating voters twixt trips.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 December 2002 11:25 (twenty-three years ago)

BRING THE PAIN!

Also Pete do not forget the juker action for those who stay the course.

Will there be mapped proof of this hexagony?

Tom (Groke), Friday, 20 December 2002 11:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Will be there if I'm back...

Sarah (starry), Friday, 20 December 2002 11:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Six pubs equals six points. I never said nuttin' about it being a regular hexagon did I?

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 December 2002 11:59 (twenty-three years ago)

heh will try & come along. but wh-wh-what does the Head of Steam not have a LOO or summat then Pete?

katie (katie), Friday, 20 December 2002 12:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Toilet is in basement, bar on 1-st floor and as some sort of draconian anti-homelessness rule they have special code for toilet use which you always forget on the way down the stairs making you wee yourself looking just like trhe homelesses they usually evict.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 December 2002 12:06 (twenty-three years ago)

can we not just write the code on our HAND so we will not forget?

katie (katie), Friday, 20 December 2002 12:11 (twenty-three years ago)

If you wash your hands, the code will come off. DId I mention you also need the code to GET OUT OF THE DUNGEON / Toilet?

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 December 2002 12:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Dah! I'll be away, but it's probably time I came along to one of these-I'll try and make it next year when I'm back.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 20 December 2002 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I fly from Heathrow at 7.30 so technically I could come along, but I think there's rules about drunken flying. Liam Gallagher I ain't.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 20 December 2002 12:53 (twenty-three years ago)

The rule is - sleep.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 December 2002 13:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Wahey! I'm there....having had a solid meal before to soak up the alcohol.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 20 December 2002 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

It is appealing, but I have at least tentative prior arrangements, so probably can't come. Can we have a location for the Head Of Steam, in case my arrangements change?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 20 December 2002 19:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Head of Steam = Euston Station

I will be there as usual.

Graham (graham), Friday, 20 December 2002 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Are we planning to slump around the station concourse drinking from bottles in brown paper bags?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 20 December 2002 22:52 (twenty-three years ago)

i certainly hope so!

gareth (gareth), Friday, 20 December 2002 23:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, it wasn't a complaint, just checking.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 20 December 2002 23:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Are we planning to slump around the station concourse drinking from bottles in brown paper bags?

As I'll have me champers glass handy, no need for the brown paper bag, thankyouverymuch. Still, it will be good prep for my next shift: 12-16 hours safeguarding MoS.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Sunday, 22 December 2002 15:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Rubbish!! You don't need the code to get out of the toilets! And it's not at all hard to remember HONESTLY! You Head of Steam hatas! And the loos are lovely and aromatic. Ahem.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 23 December 2002 10:46 (twenty-three years ago)

29th, that's a Sunday. wow, a FAP I can actually make! Head of Steam is one of my favourite pubs too!

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 23 December 2002 16:18 (twenty-three years ago)

it's also the same day as Arsenal vs Lverpool, which may produce interesting times.

chris (chris), Monday, 23 December 2002 16:24 (twenty-three years ago)

momus momus momus

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 25 December 2002 16:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Rar - I can make it!!

Football? Oh NADGERS. Sign me up for staying in the Head of Steam!

sarah in glos, Wednesday, 25 December 2002 20:25 (twenty-three years ago)

i've just realised this is a daytime drinking thing...i cant be doing no daytime drinking...count me out

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 25 December 2002 23:14 (twenty-three years ago)

oh wait, i see, ok, i might make the last pub bit at 8.30 if you say where it is, my plans are kind of up in the air at the minute anyway

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 25 December 2002 23:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth, yer a big wuss.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 25 December 2002 23:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah, basically the Head of steam could well be containing very pissed up scousers, beware. Or doies the Liverpool train go into Kingsx?

chris (chris), Wednesday, 25 December 2002 23:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Liverpool train is Euston, you're right. Bollocks.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 26 December 2002 01:52 (twenty-three years ago)

i dont like spending daytime in pubs. i hate it in fact!

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 26 December 2002 09:43 (twenty-three years ago)

why's that Gareth? Some of my best drinking times have been daytime sessions, especially during normal working hours with a bunch ofn chums with the day off.

chris (chris), Thursday, 26 December 2002 12:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yay for daytime sessions also :) arse/liv kick off is 4, so euston *should* be free of sc*users by half three shurely...

also starry, why are you in glos rather than lancs?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 26 December 2002 12:40 (twenty-three years ago)

also, for gareth's benefit, i believe the last pub to be mabel's tavern on mabeldon place. Here is the fancyapint page, which, as usual, is a little harsh on quite a good boozer...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 26 December 2002 13:04 (twenty-three years ago)

That's the most accurate FAP.com pub review I've ever seen. M's T is nasty.

I'm in, obv, though I might struggle to make 3 pm as I'm travelling back to civilisation that day.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 26 December 2002 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Fans wd probably find somewhere better to drink than the Hos? She says hopefully... ah well, as long as we can avoid the hordes I don't mind!

Steve: foax have moved to Gloucestershire so here is where I am for xmas :( I do not like Gloucestershire v much.

sarah in glos, Thursday, 26 December 2002 16:46 (twenty-three years ago)

why's that Gareth? Some of my best drinking times have been daytime sessions,

well, i dont know, i just dont like drinking in the day, and i also prefer to be doing things in the day, and then drinking at night.

its also a body clock thing, i'm just not...right. under normal circumstances i dont even start drinking till well after 8pm, my prime drinking/going out times are 10pm-7am

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 26 December 2002 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

but i'll probably drop in for the couple

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 26 December 2002 20:21 (twenty-three years ago)

29th Dec: starts 3pm, Head Of Steam, Euston Station

Graham (graham), Friday, 27 December 2002 04:51 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, I'm not gonna make this. Have a good time y'all.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 28 December 2002 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

So is Momus coming or not???

Graham (graham), Saturday, 28 December 2002 20:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll do my best to make it....bit early, though.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 28 December 2002 21:50 (twenty-three years ago)

chuh well if i am still spluttering and snotting everywhere like i am now i won't make it obv. still RickyT is back and haf fed me lots of WHISKY. which seems to have done the trick for now (i am v pissed obv)so i might make it, or not.

katie (katie), Saturday, 28 December 2002 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm heading back to london town sometime tomorrow, so i'll drop in later on. what was the pub that was going to be towards the end of things? i wont be there till 7ish so...

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 28 December 2002 22:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I'll make it, although I have to do work things in the afternoon, so I'm not sure when I'll be there.

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 28 December 2002 23:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Wild horses etc. And a trip to the HMV Sale beforehand!

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 29 December 2002 00:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be there, it now turns out. If anyone wants my mobile number, to help in hooking up later than 3pm, email me. I'll be home until close to 2pm.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 29 December 2002 11:30 (twenty-three years ago)

The itinery is approximately as follows:
3-4pm Head Of Steam
4-5 Euston Flyer (Euston Road)
5 -6 Skinners Arms (Judd Street)
6 - 7 Norfolk Arms
7 - 8 Lord John Russell
8 - Closing Mabel's Tavern (Unless anyone wants to close the circuit)

I need to check all the above are open, but The Boot is the supersub pub if there is any trouble.

See you all later - I'm off to see a film now.

Pete (Pete), Sunday, 29 December 2002 11:38 (twenty-three years ago)

is there any point in going to an fap if you really don't feel like drinking?

masonicboom, Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sure.

(I've just missed my train but will be along in a bit)

Graham (graham), Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I mostly won't be drinking alcohol, Kate. The socialising is what I go for.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:24 (twenty-three years ago)

socialise without alcohol? what do you take me for, well adjusted? have just listened to pure phase and realised drinking is the answer so i will be along.

masonicboom, Sunday, 29 December 2002 14:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm the first one back online after the FAP! What do I win?

Anyway, good turnout, good time had by all, despite about half of the planned pubs being closed. Many headed on to another bar after pub closing time, but I am old and past it so I came home.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 30 December 2002 00:14 (twenty-three years ago)

it didnt last that long anyway martin...we stayed at the caledonian irish bar for maybe an hour...there was

rickyt, sarah, anna, graham, tom, pete, me, martin, carsmile steve, nichole graham, kate, tim hopkins, mark h, emma

gareth (gareth), Monday, 30 December 2002 00:56 (twenty-three years ago)

gutted I missed it, too busy hunting unsuccessfully for new trainers and putting furniure together!

chris (chris), Monday, 30 December 2002 10:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I feel so ill it isn't even funny.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 30 December 2002 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

There was also lixi and Pete's two mates!

I walked from Elephant and Castle to home and it was exhilarating! I love walking through London at night when I'm drunk enough not to be a bit nervy (NB this is also a bit of a foolish activity).

Tom (Groke), Monday, 30 December 2002 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Aww. Threads like this make me wish I lived in London.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 30 December 2002 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

cannot believe how hungover i am. didn't get beaten up- cool. travelled thousands of miles 2 meet fellow ny'er nicole. phrase of evening = 'i'm not rude, i'm just socially incompetant.' drank 2 much and got surly, sorry.

masonicboom, Monday, 30 December 2002 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks Pete and Anna and everyone else.

Graham (graham), Monday, 30 December 2002 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

damn! I had to come back from holidays on the same day.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 30 December 2002 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate - I did not stop throwing up until one this afternoon.

Why do none of you tell me I am clearly very drunk and shouting about some bollocks subject ("No! Tim! I was born in Exeter! I was!" or similar) and should stop drinking for the good of humanity? No, sadly, you tell me where the whisky bottle is.

(But I am still grateful for all hospitality)

Anna (Anna), Monday, 30 December 2002 15:51 (twenty-three years ago)

(Anna, I did get the ph34r when you cuddled me goodbye)

Graham (graham), Monday, 30 December 2002 15:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I spent the whole of yesterday in abject ruin. When will I learn that beer is not my friend?

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 01:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, and it really does exist: http://www.dadcheck.com

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 01:08 (twenty-three years ago)

AH - Dadcheck. I think that was advertised in the toilets of The Euston Flyer...

I was also in much of a state - last thing I remember was shouting of the balcony "You're going the wrong way..."

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 2 January 2003 10:34 (twenty-three years ago)

It was advertised in the Euston Flyer bogs. I have the photo to prove it.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 2 January 2003 10:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Doesn't say much for the custom of the FLyer. Mind you going in there didn't say much for its custom.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 2 January 2003 12:01 (twenty-three years ago)

a belated apology for leaving so early. i was just being a wuss and felt v tired. i actually fell asleep on the tube and was woken by a guard at hammersmith. you can tell how tired i was, cos it was only like 4 stops for me to get home, so must have fallen asleep within 10 mins of getting on. when i woke up i was, natch, raring to go again, but it was TOO LATE. oh no.

i promise, hem hem, that the next FAP will see me in more talkative mood and willing to stay til the bitter (but pre-spanish bar) end

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

For which we are very greatful Pete.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:21 (twenty-three years ago)
