Vince McMahon- Classic or Dud?

A potted history- beaten by stepdad, raped by mother, becomes friends with Evel Knievel, creates two of the biggest PPV disasters in US history, has a bash at wrestling, becomes rich, takes steroids, becomes poor, has a word with Steve Austin, becomes rich, lets his daughter run the show, becomes poor.

That seems to cover it all. So, Vince Kennedy McMahon Jnr- classic or dud?

Dud - but only because I link him with that moaning whore of a daughter. Wind beneath my wings my arse.

How could you not mention the XFL???

When they make "That 00's Show" I predict many jokes about the XFL.

You forgot killed a wrestler.

i love how every single mainstream article written on wrestling over the past few years mentions the godfather - was he ever an upper-card wrestler?

the xfl book 'long bomb' is pretty good reading.

and as long as the world has to suffer through 20 minute smarm-o-matic heat-killing hhh promos, i say dud.

rocked - where else wasx i sposed to look as an 8 yr old with a hard on for men in ridiculous costumes and tiny dicks? Cos they don't show the congress hearings out here y'know?

I've had loads of fun out of the WWF over the years, so classic. But over here I have no wider perspective than what I see on WWF shows, in that Vince is not news. Oh, I did see the doc where Brett Hart moans about how the title was taken from him and stuff, and VM is clearly an arse in that (though cunning!), but it is plainly a very one-sided presentation.

twenty years pass...

A former member of our synagogue wrote a book about Vince called "Ringmaster." I just saw her speak, and the story (as the book apparently presents it) sounds fascinating, focusing a lot not just on the importance of the heel, but on the whole frustrating notion of good things happening to bad people (and specifically the longtime relationship - direct and indirect - between Vince McMahon and Trump, who share a slot of traits; the author identifies the 2007 appearance of Trump at some wrestling event as what she suspects could be a turning point, the first time Trump really experienced interacting with what one might call an active, rowdy crowd, and learning how much he liked it).

Anyway, never been a fan of pro wrestling, but looking forward to reading it.

There is a several episode long Behind The Bastards about him. I've listened to the first couple. Don't think I was familiar with the name before.

six months pass...

Per the latest lawsuit against the Id to Trump's ego, Vince McMahon is truly vile and repulsive, even more than anyone might have guessed:

I think maybe a lot of people guessed

I'm sure, but for all the hideous things I've read about that dude, this seems above and beyond. The details are stomach churning.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 January 2024 14:48 (two years ago)

yeah this takes uh a hell of a turn

frogbs, Friday, 26 January 2024 15:21 (two years ago)

Yeah I just read the Ringmaster book mentioned above, have known how despicable Vince is for decades, and even I think the details here are shockingly evil.
