this is the result of having to enter the packed supermarket on christmas eve. i got my foot run over with trolleys pushed by ignorant people who thought they could speed up the process by being STUPID and pushy,- someone in front of me knocked a whole pile of sauce packets into the middle of the aisle and just went on pushing ahead, leaving the trail behind her,- the car park was a nightmare of hot n bothered drivers sitting waiting for 'someone' to leave so they could take their spot, which meant that everyone else had to queue as well since there was no room to pass, - the checkout wait was so long they had a guy walking around handing out lollies to sustain customers, - i got home and discovered i had forgotten some stuff NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
so, whats it like in your area?

Meadowbank shopping centre was ok. Though this could be because my Dad woke me so we could get there early and avoid the rush.

Two days ago, the Borders near my aunt's suburb of Philadelphia took half an hour to get into from the highway. Today, we heard on the local news that it took half an hour to get to our local mall (put in a small town) from the highway. Usually it takes two minutes. *shudder* I'm SO GLAD I wasn't out.

Downtown, when I just drove through it, looked like total chaos; lots & lots of people out walking through the shops.

Thankfully, I didn't have to finish any shopping tonight, since I was at work until late tonight- then when I finally finished up & went out to my car, I discovered that I'd left my lights on & my car battery was dead. AARRGGHH!

It's freezing here (ok, freezing for us- about 40 F or so), and I guess that & leaving the lights on for 6 hours did in the battery. I had to call boy & ask him to come jump me, which he quite graciously did- he got a friend with a big pickup truck to come jump my car, so now I'm baking cookies for both of them.

oh damn I was going to go to the supermarket tonight, it sounds dangerous. Are new worlds open on Christmas day?

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 04:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I've made three seperate trips to two different supermarkets today and they've been fine, though i did avoid the bedlam of Pak n Save. The vege shop on the way home from New World was horribly busy, but worse than that they're charging three times the price for strawberries and peaches that they were on Monday. Sick and wrong.

i stayed out of town & away from shops, it's been good. maybe it won't be as good tomorrow when people find out that i didnt bother to buy them any presents tho.

well i went to the supermarket at about 530pm and it was remarkably civil at the ferrymead woollies, i was expecting trolley rage and extreme queues but was pleasantly surprised to find neither, but yeah strawberries were incredibly dear and mostly rotten. no i dont think new world is open on xmas day either...

I went to tescos this morning, picked up milk and newspapers walked straight to the till and paid, there was hardly anyone there and every single till was open.

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 12:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I just finished my shopping about 1.5 hours ago; thinks were remarkably civil, but I don't do malls, so that may help.

the grocery store on christmas eve was busy but okay; i went to the little local one, not tops or wegmans, though. wish i'd bought cat food, because we're out and we're snowed in.
