It's just ego isn't it. If new messages had been posted to further the discussion y'd have got The Warning, and yeah-yeah it's probly possible that a message could be posted after you've submitted even after The Warning, but, really, how often does that happen? Yr just going back to see how yr ink sits on the page, aren't ya? I use it all the time: to see formatting etc, to read my thoughts (they always look difft on the 'page' as opposed to the little 'box'). Do you use it, or rather: is there anyone who doesn't use it?

I don't use it much, but that's not because I don't like looking at how it looks on the page (and doing the check of it that I should have done before I hit submit). It's just that I like to see what's in New Answers first and then if there's nothing new I'll go back to the thread I've just posted to.

The only times I use it are when I want to post a second message, either because I've just thought of something else, or because I originally thought that what I wanted to say worked better split into two messages. Usually for a joke, because it's all in the

timing!

Apart from html-checking, I mainly use it to go back and see if my post was really ridiculously screen-fillingly overlong or if nobody will notice that it's a lot longer than it needed to be considering how little I have to say about anything. I then stare down at my curling toes, mutter "fuck fuck FUCK too long again argh", and return to the new answers page filled with extra self-loathing which will make the next answer twenty times longer and infinitely more embarrassing and dull than it should be as well. This = case in point. Oops.

Or with the html checking I arrive back at the new answers page thinking, "I had no idea how big and self-important that tag would make the text look, duh," and will then do it again and think the same thing mere days later.

Brrr.
