Devotion to Footie: Is It Insanity?

While freezing my arse in the cold protecting the footie supporters from themeselves today, I can't help wondering why anyone would pay 20 pounds (and up) for one ticket, pay highway robbery prices for tiny portions of food, and risk ejection for chugging down watery lager?

Convince me (if you can) why tis better to risk hypothermia in person....than stay home and watch the games on Sky, satellite or whatever?

slightly off topic but i often wonder how much memory i'd have freed up if i forgot all the football stuff

the atmosphere at many football games, whether the sell-out Premiership epics or the lower league cheap n cheerful slug-outs is still hard to beat...i went to a Premiership game for the first time in years recently and altho its was 0-0 and the game itself was a bit disappointing, just watching the crowd around you and the singing and tne range of comments ranging from sparky wit to inane abuse was quite something, not quite worth the price paid tho we did have some of the best seats in the ground (at around £45 each they fuckin better be)

I hate football. Can't stand it.My sister is dating a famous footballer,I can have free tickets to matches that most of my mates would give their eye teeth for.But I can't bring myself to go,not since my first and last football match atendance.I am not a thug, hooligan, not even a mildly violent person.Yet when I went (under protest)to see Southend United(my home town team)play Ipswich, and Southend came from bieng one goal behind to one goal in front,I found myself becoming a baying animal, taunting the opposing team's supporters for all I was worth. This frightened me immensely, and I've never been back!

I now stick to motorsports, they seem less 'tribal' than things like footie and rugby. All the unpronounceable names with none of the aggression. And the Brits usually get beaten by the Germans.I hate Schumacher........

I only go to see my beloved Bristol Rovers, on their rare visits to London. If I could see extensive highlights of their games regularly I might forego such trips, though it is exciting to actually be there, now and again.
