Watching video on the computer...

Okay, so I downloaded the entire movie of Adaptation (Let's not debate the ethics of this, as I already feel really guilty about it and am not sure if it's morally right or not myself) -- it's in .avi form, and Ive downloaded it about 4 different times, 2 times it came in 2 files (e.g. "Adaptation Part 1.avi, Adaptation Part 2.avi"), the other times it was the full movie. Every time I've tried to play it, it's either not loaded, or it has but all I've gotten is a blank, black (or sometimes green) screen, that is 1 hour and 2 minutes long... no sound. I've tried playing it with RealOne Player, Divx (which thinks for a long time and gives me some weird pop up about it being invalid... or occasionally just loads the black screen), and Windows Media Player 9-- which seems to have the same problem as RealOne. It must also be known I dont have the newest Windows Media Player, but it's very recent, and every time I try to download the update it doesnt work.

What should I do? Could it have something to do with the resolution of my monitor (I have a small monitor, but I can adjust the resolution if I want but everything becomes very small). Are there any better video players? Ive noticed that sometimes when I play smaller files, like TV shows, on Real One or Windows, the file is very choppy, and occasionally it skips and the audio doesnt match the visual. Should I download a .mpeg of the film? It seems that'd be too big...

there might be a problem with your codec. do you have the current ones for divx?
otherwise it's probably just a shoddy file. too bad, i guess.

Is it a new movie? if so it is possible it's not even on the net yet.
your story sounds like a typical case of fake file.

I think that fake file phenomenon is backed-up by hollywood. It is a not so expensive way to cripple the game of p2p networks while waiting to sue n' shut them down.
This is a very bad strategy that will raise the cost of bandwidth for all y'all.

To avoid downloading big ass bogus files I suggest using google to find a webpage that lists the size in meg of the files that are 4 real.
ex: http://www.fasttrackmovies.com/ do this for kazaa lite.

About feeling bad etc I'll absolve yr sins only if you write a 1000 words essay on how it is key and urgent to upload guy debord's _the society of spectacle_ in avi and share it on various p2p networks under it's real name + under a bunch of fake ones too like: lexxxus lolita bang etc. Send this essay to the folks at nothingness.org and other activist mailing lists until you find someone who actually have that movie, ask him to upload it or send him a tape so you'll do it yourself. then get back here with a proof. amen.

I attempted to download the video for "Die Another Day" and ended up with gay porn. I HATE GUERILLA LABELLING (even if it was funny once the shock wore off: "Here's the MTV wolrd premier of the video for Madonna's 'Die Another Day'; it's three guys sucking each other off in a hot tube while a completely different song plays in the background! Enjoy, America!").

one's lolita porn is another's madonna video? I changed my mind I HATE ALL GUERILLA LABELLING TOO!
