Panic on the streets of Tscheboksary

A Russian student has sued a cinema in his town for having caused emotional and physical damage after watching a screening of the 70s (porn)version of Caligula. He said he was mislead by the film poster who promised a "historical" movie. He now demands 15.600 euros!

but that's not all:
his request has been rejected in court twice already cause the student had lost his cinema ticket (in panic?).

(so far i only have a report in Dutch abt this, but it's true... really;-)))))

comments? and have you ever been mislead by film posters?

When I was small I went to see a showing of the Dino Di Laurenttis "King Kong", but was then presented with "Piranha". This proved too much for me, and it became the only film I have ever walked out of.

Bizarrely, the film show was on in my local church hall.

"Caligula" does have quite a bit of historical interest! Some of the porno stuff is obviously second-unit inserts, but overall it's very watchable. Gore Vidal wrote the script but had his name taken off. Acting is decent in places too. And decent photography.

sean, did you get to see the non censured version then? Hum, I only saw some one and a half hour video version once, it looked very strange cause a lot of scenes were cut out, I just did not know what I was looking at. it looked all decent to me though.

I saw it on video years ago, and in the theater maybe 2 years ago during a theatrical rerelease. I'm pretty sure they were billing it as an uncut version, but since a few different parties were involved in its production and distribution (like, say, Dawn of the Dead) I think there are several versions around that can claim to be the "official" one. Anyway, the recent theatrical version seemed complete.

Oh and Erik, be an AIM geek. I'm SaturnxSF

Erik, i'm trying to figure out how the film could have caused him physical damage..could you investigate and let us know.

H (Heruy), Sunday, 29 December 2002 18:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, that is a very good question. Since I saw it twice, I'm wondering if I myself should be concerned.

Sean (Sean), Sunday, 29 December 2002 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

well, so far that part of the news is "censored"...but I see Snowy sniffing at something now...no, that's vodka.

When I was about 7 I was taken to see 'Smokey & The Bandit', but due to certain ppl's total inability to read film listings I ended up seeing 'Saturday Night Fever'instead. Had this not happened, my current music taste would be probably be even worse than it already is
